C2 PREVIEW: Time Capsules - A History Forum

Over the course of this week, we'll be offering a preview of our plans for the new C2 site. Today's Taste of C2 features Time Capsules: A History Forum.

The Time Capsules forum will be hosted by the amazing Pi Guy. We're excited to present this forum, which will no doubt be a favorite of many. Here you'll find Pi Guy's popular feature, Today in History. Feel like talking about Fat Man and Little Boy or celebrating the upcoming Marine Corps birthday on November 10th? Whether your thing is world history or American history, you'll be able to discuss it here.

As most of you already know (or might surmise from his nic), Pi Guy is rather fond of math, and publishes the Grey Matters blog. He doesn't mind being referred to as an uber-geek, and while you're in there, go ahead and ask him what day of the week your birthday fell on in 1974. He can tell you. Really! How cool is that?

116 comments:

  1. Thanks for all your work already, Pi Guy!

    All:

I don't think he'll be here until later tonight, but use this thread to say hello to the Pi Guy the Uber Geek, ask questions about the new place, talk about the weather...whatever.

(Hey Pi Guy, if you want to let everyone know what you've been working on, that would be cool!)

  2. So what day of the week did the Marine Corps birthday fall on in 1974?

  3. So what day of the week did the Marine Corps birthday fall on in 1974?

That was somewhere between a Sunday and a Saturday I think.

  4. By the way, for the historically-inclined, and America-loving types, don't forget that tomorrow is Constitution Day - so celebrate one of the greatest political documents ever to come from the minds of men.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Nice.
Thanks to Pi Guy for doing this.

  6. Wow, we have a money forum, a science forum, fruitcup forum. Anything else planned to put into the new place?

    ReplyDelete
  7. D/S - good question. LOL

We'll be celebrating this November 10th on C2 - we hope you'll be bringing the cake.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ummm, got too excited. Meant history forum instead of science. :p

  10. P2, plans are trickling out. So far announced:

Friends of Israel, hosted by Carl in Jerusalem
Help and Support, hosted by Running Bare
All About the Benjamins, hosted by 3wood
Time Capsules: A History Forum, hosted by Pi Guy

The front page will be "The Daily Broadside" - logo made its debut this morning on Running Bare's morning news thread.

There's one more to be announced, I think, and a couple more possibilities being kicked around.

One of those may be a military forum, and we're taking naming suggestions (though we think we may have stumbled on it last night).

If anybody has one, we're looking for something a little creative, edgy, pertaining to all the branches...please let us know if anything strikes you, and we'll throw it into the hat.

The logo will PROBABLY have the Iwo Jima Memorial in it, 'cause my dad was on Iwo, and I make the logos around here. : )

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hmmm military forum name. Might have to start dredging up some military quotes to mangle nicely for that. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Forum Czar! Digging that. Hmmmmm...what to use for an avatar...

  13. OT OT OT

Afternoon ellybelly! Bruce Bawer LIVE from Montreal at 19:00 - approximately 30 minutess from now.

He also spoke in Ottawa last night but I was unable to attend - dammit.

    Go here: http://vladtepesblog.com/

There's also all kinds of other great stuff there so have a look around - it an Ottawa blog.

BBL - I'm in the middle of making some pecan-caramel-buttery-cinnamon-sticky buns for the office tomorrow. They're to DIE for - trustame.

{REALWEST} If you're here: *smooooooochie-smooch* Thinking 'boutcha, luv.

    ReplyDelete
  14. We could use some of those sticky buns over here, Miss Trixie. How about it?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Goodgrief! I've been back on the ACORN thread, wondering why nobody would talk to me!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey Miss Trixie, Phil, realwest, C2. How ya'll all doing today?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Pinkie, I thought I said something over there about a new thread upstairs...am I losing it?

    ReplyDelete
  18. If I had to guess, I'd say I'm the one losing it!

I'm in the middle of garage-sale prep, otherwise known as 'visiting with all kinds stuff I forgot I had'. I was taking a break and just ended up at the bottom of the thread in the wrong browser window.

Ding!! (That's the bell signalling end of break-time.) I shall return!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Come back as soon as you can! WE MISS YOU.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi Pinkie, by Pinkie. Hi also to Miss Trixie. We have to figure out how to send cooked stuff long distance over the intertubes. Caramel pecan sticky buns sounds lots better then what I am having for dinner.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi y'all!
Has an introductory date been set yet to open the new site?
Is there anything for us to prepare, for example do I need to dust off my sundays finest suit or prepare any special celebratory foods?
Will we need to learn seecreet greeting formulae or do we need to give our get-away car a last check-up incase the whole thing comes tumblin' down upon us?
/ Again questions upon questions. /

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey Callahan...just polish your 44, that should do it.

IIRC, RB said it may kick off early next week.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ummmmmmmmmmm

    Miss Trixie's sticky buns.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Jorline ... I am not allowed to own a gun in this country. :-(
That being said I might give my swiss-armies-officers knife a real good sharpening and polish.

I hope I'll be there, early next week.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I might miss the roll out on Sunday. Usually got stuff going on in the afternoon/early evening that day. Will try and get on before bed time though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am really terribly sorry to shorten my stay today again. Need to take this drama-in-the-family phone call. See you all tomorrow.

    Gals, guys 'n 'menschen'.

    ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hello Blah2. TFK is coming here? Woot!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Seeing as everyone is using new nics, can I get one?

    How about;

    Erik The Wonderful
    Erik The Great
    Erik The Hunk
    Erik The Invincible
    Erik The Stud

On second thoughts I will stay with ETR. :)))

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks, PBJ! I'm cracking up with some of these videos on YouTube. But I don't want to show them now because I may want to use them on Friday!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I kinda like Erik the Invincible. :-)

    Buy anything today?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I kinda like Erik the Invincible. :-)

    Buy anything today?

Nope. Saw two gas stations that maybe promising. Doing the numbers now.(or my guru is). Nothing on the home front. I have champagne taste on a scotch budget.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Are you looking to stay in Central Florida, Erik?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi everyone, it's break time again.

Welcome, Blah2! Glad you joined us!

Erik, you're perfect as is! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Erik, have you checked out the Cocoa Beach area? It's really nice, has a great smaller-town feel, and still close to Orlando.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My yard sale is next Saturday, Pink. But I'm already having nightmares about it...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Are you looking to stay in Central Florida, Erik?

Yes at least until my two girls are done with HS. So i have at least eight years. I love it here so far, so it will not be hard to stay. I don't want to see that 'white shit" ever again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh. "White shit".

    /MORE nightmares :-(

    ReplyDelete
  47. Littleoldlady, I predict many C2 breaks for you.

What a job this has turned out to be! ....and I haven't even tackled the outdoor storage yet!

Good thing I'm not a *real* packrat, just a mediocre one.

    ReplyDelete
  48. One more word of advice, Lol:

Once you get it out the house, DON'T LET IT BACK IN! Everything left goes to Goodwill.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Me, I'm world-class. It's in the DNA. My family's motto is: Don't throw that out! It's still good. You never know when you might need it.

My aunt goes to the thrift store in Florida...buys a bunch of stuff...takes it home...decides she doesn't want it....SHIPS it to me...I stick the stuff in the Purple Heart box.

I'm absolutely CONVINCED that Purple Heart ships my stuff to that little thrift shop in Florida!

    ReplyDelete
  50. the sound of trees falling and no one there

    ReplyDelete
  51. The wheat needs to be mowed. (Is wheat "mowed"?) The cows needs to be milked. And I have a fence to mend.

    Howdy, blahblah! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. One more word of advice, Lol:

Once you get it out the house, DON'T LET IT BACK IN! Everything left goes to Goodwill.

ROFLMAO that has to be the funniest advice I have heard. Wish my mom enforced that with my dad. I cleaned the basement out once with my brothers, just once. My dad is a HUGE packrat, and he moved everything back in. My mom told him that he would clean out the basement on his own when it needed doing again. Never got cleaned out again...

    ReplyDelete
  53. So, it is realwest fault, he told me to late
to use only taxfreekiller so, my mind selected

Pink:P2, I am determined ...I have crap I don't even remember having! I think this stuff breeds ....
It does breed, when you aren't watching. It takes up that storage space you were sure you had one time long ago....

    ReplyDelete
  64. It takes up that storage space you were sure you had one time long ago....

And then you have to move to a bigger place for your "stuff", and then...well the next thing you know you're moving in with Erik at his champagne place.

    ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. OMG ... blahblah ... Hey! so friggin great to see you ... does this mean I have to stop with the single blah? ... dang ...

    ReplyDelete
  66. littleoldlady: Why would I want to move to Florida? Most of those homes don't have a proper basement for storage. ;)
