Lawmakers back officials facing jail for prayer

From the Washington Times:

Two Florida school officials facing possible jail terms for praying in the presence of students arrive in court Thursday enjoying the support of more than 60 members of Congress.

Some of those members, who signed a letter of support and sent it to the two school officials Monday, took to the House floor Tuesday night to denounce what they called a "criminalization of prayer" that "tramples on the First Amendment rights" of Christians.

  5. Mr. Miller criticized the order, saying, "a federal judge has gone well outside the bounds of the Constitution to declare that prayer offered among adults is illegal." There was "zero student participation" at the event, he said. "That the court would somehow consider this action to be criminal behavior is simply unconscionable."

This is pretty fucked up. I hope if found guilty it gets thrown up to the Supreme Court.

  17. As I get the gist of the story, some teachers had a little prayer before an event.

They didn't organize anyone, or require students to participate, but somehow it's still a criminal violation?

TBILISI, September 15 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia said on Tuesday it would resist any attempts by Russia to detain its ships in the waters of its former province of Abkhazia.

Lost cause. Georgia lost most of what navy it had last year, IIRC. Their Navy is pretty much gunboats at this point.

We may just have a genius in the White House. He is mightily pushing ahead with an agenda designed to rein in the Republican Capitalists who have forgotten their obligation for societal egalite, decency, a living wage and affordable housing - and who have also forotten their Traditional Judeo and Traditional Christian backgrounds.

Obama’s incremental improvement on a thousand fronts
is going to have a good payoff in the future - far better than Bush’s destruction of the “level playing field” and just about everything else.

Obama is a far, far better President than we deserve.
