Good morning, C2ers! It's a beautiful sunny day, the birds are singing, the construction crews are working hard, the smell of diesel is in the air, and I'm on my third Vente coffee. How much more full of of Awesome can this day get?
Before I get to the news, I am obligated by an overbearing sense of duty and responsibility to post our mission statement, and a brief reminder of a few things, before we get to the fun stuff, so bear with me.
We understand that some people may not be aware of our policies here, and though we've stated them a couple of times, things get buried quickly on Blogspot so you may not have seen our posts on it. That's our bad, not yours, but just so you know, here it is once more.
We're moving forward, and because we're moving forward, we ask that you do the same while you're here. If you have negative feelings about other websites or their members, please resist writing about them on Correspondence Committee. We're determined to stay out of any blog wars that may be going on between other sites, and we ask for your help achieving that goal.
Our focus will be a positive, fresh political website with a level playing field, and we are thrilled that each and every one of you has joined us. We really are.
We appreciate your cooperation on these matters, and invite you all to move forward with us.
So, with all that rigamarole out of the way, let us take a look at the news this morning, shall we?
First up, in the Cult of Personality category - Have you ever wanted to feel like you belong? Have you ever thought, "I want to feel really special!"? Have you ever looked at your naked ring finger and thought, "You know what would look really good right there? An Obama class ring. Oh yeah!"?
Well, now all your dreams can come true: The Obama Class Ring.
As an extra item this morning, there's a piece on CNN, remembering a Medal of Honor recipient: Medal of Honor recipient remembered as a selfless friend.
Has the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle been solved? Will Jimmah Carter stand by what he said? Will President Obama sell out Poland and the Czech Republic? Will I drink more coffee this morning?
As always, this is an open thread about whatever. Enjoy!
P.S. That's Miles Davis, for those who didn't know.

FIRST!!!
ReplyDelete/always wanted to do that. :)
// it won't happen again, I promise
The "FIRST!" thing isn't verboten here. Good morning!
ReplyDeleteGood morning RunningBare. Thanks for the repost of the policy statement. I kinda knew a bit about it, and I have been trying to follow it.
ReplyDeleteAn 18-year-old student armed with an ax and knives lobbed Molotov cocktails at his high school in Germany on Thursday, wounding nine pupils before he was shot and arrested by police.
ReplyDeleteAx Control NOW!!!!!!
Good morning RunningBare. Thanks for the repost of the policy statement. I kinda knew a bit about it, and I have been trying to follow it.
ReplyDeleteThis wasn't directed at any one person - we just have new people showing up every day, and we all felt a reminder was in order. I really hate having to pull comments - it makes me feel all dirty. I'd prefer if I never had to.
Our rules are few, but the ones we do have are important, and there for good reasons :)
Ax Control NOW!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteForget about axes, how about gasoline control and glass bottles. Don't you know how much energy he wasted? Not just the burning gasoline, what about all the energy wasted by not recycling the glass bottle. It's heresy I tell you, heresy.
/////
That, and that burning fuel was bad for the environment. He probably just sped up the oncoming Global Warming by a few seconds. He's KILLED US ALL!
ReplyDeleteRB: I know it was a general statement. It's good to remind all the newcomers. We are trying to recapture what we enjoyed, not devolve into another hate fest. So far things are looking good. Can't wait to see the new place when it goes live.
ReplyDeleteWow, was looking at my Flickr account and forgot how prolific I was with my pictures. Over 1900 on there alone. And that's not all the ones I have taken. Have several hundred more from before that, and at least several hundred I have taken since June. I shudder to think what the developing cost would have been with film. Not to mention film costs.
ReplyDeleteHere's a corruscating denoucnement of the British Trade Unions, who are having vote on how to boycott Israel:

ReplyDeleteGood morning P2, yma, Mr. Bare! Great to see you!
Good morning all!! How 'bout that Maxine Waters? HotAir: Protesters should be probed for 'racist' thoughts.
Good morning CC. It kinda loses it's punch about 15 minutes after the first post. ;)
ReplyDeleteGood morning all!! How 'bout that Maxine Waters?
ReplyDeleteGood morning! I wasn't expecting to see you this soon!
*runs to pick up dirty laundry off the floor, put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, and put the toilet seat down*
Good morning, yma! Thanks for that article! Much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteMaxine Waters should be probed for signs of intelligent life.

Depends on what one uses to probe.
ReplyDeleteI will refrain from saying my personal picks. I will just think them and save myself from being *whacked* with any type of clue bat.
I will refrain from saying my personal picks.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
I've just realised - we're less than a week from the Autumn Equinox ...
ReplyDeleteTime to tie the rooftiles down, get the fires going, start cooking winter soups - and have lots of towels ahndy to dry Madame when we come back from the park!
Apples ... must get apples ...
Good morning CC. It kinda loses it's punch about 15 minutes after the first post. ;)
ReplyDeleteRats. : )
P2, I have lots of chances to really be first...next time I put up a thread, I'm going to do it. WATCH ME. LOL

ReplyDeleteNow that would be cheating. ;)
Good morning, yma. "Madame" is...? Who? (I don't want to assume.)
ReplyDeleteEd Morrisey:
ReplyDeleteWhy has the Obama administration decided to toss eastern Europe under the bus in order to make nice with Russia? According to CNN, Joe Biden says that a missile-defense system in Europe isn’t really necessary, because Iran isn’t much of a threat. No, really.
I'm hoping "Madame" is a dog. As in Canine.
ReplyDeleteB/G: How ACORN Got Dumped By the Census
ReplyDeleteOne of ACORN’s responsibilities would have been to recruit census workers. Given ACORN’s propensity for falsifying government documents, it seemed illogical that their employees would now be handling census forms. The Census Bureau was, in effect, inviting fraud in the 2010 census.
Hiya, CC!
ReplyDeleteMadame is my beloved Border Collie, whose real name is Jodi, and whom i have promoted to 'Madame Dog' because of her advanced age.
I mean, she's 12 and 1/2 now - would you still call a 90-year old lady 'baby'?
Anyway, once the building work is done here, and we can stick little avatars in, there'll be one showing Madame, in all her cheeky beauty!
(Yeah, I do love her to bits, stating the blimmin' obvious!)
Wendy, that's what I was thinking (it seemed obvious), but I didn't want to assume. : )
ReplyDeleteSounded like a pretty nice scene, in any case. I love fall! I'm going to have to get my slow cooker out and make something delicious.
Hiya, Wendy - yep, Madame is your typical house wolf - pocket size!
ReplyDeleteOh - dunno about you, but the security thingies we type, to sort the 'umans from the robots, look to me like words from a strange language which I don't know, but which sounds vaguely familiar, and the meaning of which I surely one day will decipher ...
ReplyDeleteI thought so, yma! Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI am a dog lover, too. I have a Welsh Corgi, and a Corgi/Basset mix. They are my joy!
Can't wait to see the avatar!
Corgies - aahhh!
ReplyDeleteThey are Welsh dogs, herding dogs like Border Collies.
and of course they're 'Royal' dogs - the Queen is a great admirer, has even bred her own ...
Yep, one avatars are up and running, we can admire our dogs all round!
That Obama class ring just scares me, for the record. LOL
ReplyDeleteNow I better get meself to the kitchen and get the dinner for that pocket wolf of mine ...!
ReplyDeleteBIAB
Hiya, Wendy - yep, Madame is your typical house wolf - pocket size!
ReplyDeleteHere's my favourite house wolf. Too smart for my own good though.

Here's my favourite house wolf. Too smart for my own good though.
ReplyDeleteAwww... what a cutie!
Yes, he's my second purebred Corgi. His herding instinct is even more intense than the first; he is just a control freak. Honestly. And he is fearless.
ReplyDeleteI've never personally known a Border Collie, but I believe they're ranked very high on the breed intelligence list (first, maybe?); when they herd, what do they do? Do they nip, like a Corgi?
Mine tries to keep me home, and tries to keep people from climbing up on things. He's just a beast. LOL (We are really bonded, he and I...I love him so dearly.)
Oh P2, adorable!
ReplyDeleteThe hits just keep coming: Obama Serves Up Georgia, Too
ReplyDeleteMornin CC, yma, Wendy, RB.
Thanks for that link, Wendy. Boy, Specter sure is trying to impress his new colleagues, huh?
ReplyDeleteUgh.
Oh yea...all this on the 70th anniversary of the Russian invasion of Poland.
ReplyDelete...ain't that slick?
From the link:
ReplyDelete"The new old 'card check,' according to Mr. Specter, also gives unions unprecedented access to the workplace and meetings between employers and employees before a vote to unionize. Last we checked the Constitution, even in the age of Obama private companies haven't signed away their property rights."
You'd almost think a subtle message was being sent, enuff.
ReplyDeletewhen they herd, what do they do? Do they nip, like a Corgi?
ReplyDeleteA well experienced border herds more by intimidation. If you've ever seen them in action, they stalk sheep much like a predator. It is not out of the ordinary for a border to zip in and nip a recalcitrant sheep that just won't move.
I've got an English Shepherd and they have a different style. he doesn't go into stalking mode but isn't afraid to rush in and bark/nip when necessary. When he wants me to do something, he tires to herd me.
The hits just keep coming: Obama Serves Up Georgia, Too
ReplyDeleteNice. This guy is going to give me an ulcer.
Wendy:
ReplyDeleteMy Corgi does that. I can tell from his body language when he is about to do this...he sort of freezes, then starts to walk slowly, then he bolts toward his target. And he's fearless.
Perfect description.
My first one was way more mellow...just nipped your heels, trying to direct your movement. This one is a total control freak.
Here's your list of those charged with pulling ACORN to the curb, by the way.
ReplyDeleteThe Council includes many prominent Democrats, including the man who helped President Obama Transition Team, John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress; former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; Andrew Stern, International President of the Service Employees International Union; and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros.
SEIU? This is like having Hillary Clinton investigate Bill.
Always thought the Obama Ring would look something like this
ReplyDeleteHa! That seems to be more appropriate, Squatch!
ReplyDeleteGood morning. : )
The hits just keep coming: Obama Serves Up Georgia, Too
ReplyDeleteCouple of days ago, Russia warned Georgia about stopping ships going to Abkhazia, too.
They do not fear Obama one bit.
Now here is what I would call a load of bull crap. Notice how the countries that got A or B grades are the countries with high taxes and large social welfare programs. I think our poorest now would be considered some of the well off years ago. Just with their lifestyle alone.
ReplyDelete"It is a big victory for the Czech Republic. We are happy that we will be able to continue to live in our beautiful country without the presence of foreign soldiers," said Jan Tamas, an activist who had organized numerous protests.
ReplyDeleteIdiot.
They do not fear Obama one bit.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think American citizens are the only ones who fear Obama.
My first one was way more mellow...just nipped your heels, trying to direct your movement. This one is a total control freak.
ReplyDeleteAengus doesn't nip at my heels. First, he gives me "the eye". If I ignore him (first rule, do NOT make eye contact) he jumps up and down. Now, he's something of a mutant at 90lbs so that generally gets my attention as the walls start to shake. If that doesn't "motivate" me, he starts with the nudging, sticking his snout under my arm and pushing it up. When all else fails, the nibbling comes into play. He will very gently start nibbling on my arm which is exceptionally creepy and generally gets him whatever it was he wanted.
P2 - from the link:
ReplyDeleteIn the overall rankings, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands are given A grades. Canada joins Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Belgium and France with B grades. Ireland, Germany, Italy, Australia and Britain received C grades and the U.S. and Japan are the two D performers among the 17 countries ranked.
Heaven forbid people should bear some responsibility in figuring this out for themselves.
Half the "poor" people I see whining on DU about various things don't see the irony of being able to spend all day complaining about it in front of a computer, while watching MSNBC.
Morning, CC.
ReplyDeleteHope the day has found you well !
Hey y'all - brief drive by before heading out again - according to Rasmussen:
ReplyDeleteJust before President Obama gave his speech to Congress last week, 44% of voters nationwide supported his health care reform proposal and 53% were opposed. Today, eight days after the speech and a brief bounce, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 44% support the health care plan and 53% are opposed. Absolutely no change.
It’s worth noting that support and opposition were at precisely the same levels in mid-July. In fact, other than brief blips following a nationally televised press conference by the president and his recent speech to Congress, opposition to the plan has been stable at 53% throughout July and August and now into September."

CC: Have you ever noticed that a lot of "poor" people seem to have weight problems? I know that some people have blamed it on poor diet choices. Still every time I see someone like that complaining about how their welfare has been cut I cringe. Ever see pictures from the great depression where the real poor had a gaunt look to their faces? It seems that our modern culture has lost a lot of context of what some words mean, or definitions have been greatly changed.
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here, trying to recall something good that Obama has done so far. I am not so partisan that I cannot recognize a good job when I see one, and the only two things I can come up with: Green-lighting the snipers to take out the Somali pirates (after multiple requests, if I'm not mistaken), and calling Kanye West a jackass.
ReplyDeleteWhat else is there? Somebody help me.
Oh...and he looks very nice in a suit. That's three.
P2, I know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteThe way things are going - the direction we are being taken, I should say - I wonder if we'll see those gaunt faces again.
Oh...and he looks very nice in a suit. That's three.
ReplyDeleteHis reading skills are second to none.
Thanks, realwest. He's such a used car salesman (though, as noted above, he has better clothes - LOL); I think people are starting to catch on.
ReplyDeleteTrue, Bare. The man can read his ass off. : )
ReplyDeleteHalf the "poor" people I see whining on DU about various things don't see the irony of being able to spend all day complaining about it in front of a computer, while watching MSNBC.
ReplyDeleteThat just kills me. They're always bitching and whining about how they can't afford this, they can't afford that... but they can damned sure afford a computer, DSL and Cable/Satellite television.
And by the way, Bare, I can't believe you left off the most important news of the day:
ReplyDeleteEARN TRIPLE REWARDS POINTS AT NORDSTROM NOW THROUGH SUNDAY
This has been a public service announcement. Thank you.
CC: This guy is going to give me an ulcer.
ReplyDeleteMine came as a substitute for the Unicorn with rainbow pharts.
And by the way, Bare, I can't believe you left off the most important news of the day:
ReplyDeleteThe more people what know about it, means the more people we have to fight off to get those cool boots.
Hey CorrespondenceCommittee - I know something else Obama has done: I've HEARD (no links though)that he's managed to sit through several meetings with Pelosi and Biden at the same time without throwing up!!
ReplyDeleteNow THAT'S a politician!!
Now I'm outta here again, have a great day you all and I hope to get the chance to see you all down the road!
I used to love the Walmart wars they'd have on DU. Some people would say they couldn't afford to shop anywhere else, and a number of others would come along and scold them for "betraying the cause" or some such thing.
ReplyDeleteBecause they care so very much about low income individuals, I guess.
Interesting, too - one of the Democrat talking points against Walmart has been that they are thin on benefits for their employees, forcing many of them to turn to state programs for health care.
This, of course, was supposed to turn conservatives against Walmart. I'll bet we've heard the last of that argument. NOW government health programs are the bees knees, you know. The more people who take advantage of them, the better!
Sometimes I think American citizens are the only ones who fear Obama.
ReplyDeleteMore every day, CC.
Slow but steady.
enuff: LOL
ReplyDeleterealwest: Come back soon!!
Bwahahaha ....Jules is right-on but down-right scary: Happy Molotov-Ribbentrop Day!
ReplyDeleteLater all...do have a wonderful afternoon.
Obama supporters asked to urge passage of Senate succession bill
ReplyDeleteWhat a shock!
Not.
Obama has been in campaign mode since the day he was sworn in. I'd love for some intrepid reporter to calculate the number of hours per month he spends campaigning and fundraising. Is it too much to ask that our President, whatever party he represents, spends his time on duties that affect the entire nation instead of pimping for his party?
Is it too much to ask that our President, whatever party he represents, spends his time on duties that affect the entire nation instead of pimping for his party?
ReplyDeleteYes. Any other questions? ;)
Situational ethics. They'd be outraged, outraged I tell you, if Republicans pulled a stunt like that.
ReplyDeleteThere is only one rule: Do whatever is good for them at the moment.
There is only one rule: Do whatever is good for them at the moment.
ReplyDeleteYup. the standard M.O.
New thread upstairs!
ReplyDeleteNew thread upstairs!
ReplyDeleteYou're just doing this to sabotage my Thread O' Awesome. You're against me. You're all in on it, aren't you.
I knew it.
LOL - oh shut up. : )
ReplyDeleteBut he did explain the logic of doing so, saying Iran — a key concern for the United States — was not a threat.
ReplyDelete“I think we are fully capable and secure dealing with any present or future potential Iranian threat,” he told CNN’s Chris Lawrence in Baghdad, where he is on a brief trip.
Heh.
LOL - oh shut up. : )
ReplyDeleteOh, fine. Go straight for the Alinsky Rules. Gonna ridicule me next? Huh? Huh? BRING IT!
;)
