Tom "Dung Heap" Harkin: "We have the votes."

The Hill: Harkin says he has the votes to pass public option bill in the Senate

The American people don't want it? Too. Freaking. Bad. We're ramming it down their throats. It's what we do.

Bonus: Is this picture crying for a caption contest, or what? Harkin: "Back off, Jack! I'm married!"

UPDATE: Senate Finance panel rejects govt insurance option

  2. If they think the townhall uproar was bad, pass a bill that ignores the desires of 56% of the populace and watch all hell break loose.

Most of the townhall anger stemmed from feeling that our reps were/are ignoring us. The dems may think they want to do that, but they'd be in for a surprise.

And no Republican in their right mind is going to vote for this atrocity in any way, shape or form. I can't wait to see how they're going to spin it to blame Republicans for the bill's failure, when in fact they can't sell it to their own members.

One of the major problems with Obama Care, Cap & Trade, and all the other new taxes that are coming down the pike is that it's starting to look like what was done during the early part of the Great Depression. Major tax increases and increased isolationism. Both contributed heavily to a prolonged and deepened depression.

Remember the Emergency spending bill late last year? The first pass didn't happen, but would have passed if 12 democrats had voted "yay" instead of "nay".

Naturally, the Democrats went off and blamed the Republicans anyway.

You have to use the "a href=" tag to provide the link. Let's say I want to link to Instapundit ( http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/ ), for example. I would set up the tag this way:

    <a href="http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/">Click here to go to Instapundit!</a>

Interesting . . . Maybe I could try a 5 AM PT/8 AM ET posting. That way, people could catch it before they go to work, armed with the history of the day.

There's a whole book about it - What's the Matter with Kansas, whose entire premise is that middle-class and working-class voters are too stupid to know what's good for them. The author assumes they've been brainwashed and bamboozled by Republicans, when it would be to their economic advantage to vote Democrat. I voted Republican when we were struggling financially because I knew GOP policies would make it possible for us to do better, and I was right.

In the new site, Pi Guy's forum will be open around the clock, so it won't be an issue - he'll have his own "room", and will be able to do a variety of things with it...and people can check it out all day long. There will be a Friends of Israel forum (managed by Carl in Jerusalem), a financial forum (managed by 3wood...he'll be helping out in the Pub with pro sports talk, too); Pi Guy is the history forum manager, Bar Wench and littleoldlady have the Liberty Pub (its own area on the site), and there will be a new "what are you reading" kind of book/coffeehouse forum that will be announced later today, but is still in development. Bare will manage a Help & Support forum with a little help from some others, and the main page, The Daily Broadside, will have a variety of contributors, including JCM.

We have a terrific set of moderators too, with a great manager.

It's very different than what people are probably used to, yes - but think of it as seven or eight blogs all on one site, that are related and populated by the same people, but with their own distinct personalities.

  66. ploome, illegal immigration is definitely a factor. Legal immigrants by and large are well educated and hard working. IMO, one of the benefits of eliminating illegal immigration is that we can become very selective about the immigrants we accept. We've got enough unskilled labor, thank you very much, and I think they are a big part of the problem.

People with a victim attitude, who think others are gaining at their expense, want the government to take from others and give to them, because they think that's "fair." Sorry, Skippy - life isn't fair, but in this country everyone has an opportunity to make the most of what God gave them. If you don't make the effort, it's not my problem. (True need, unforeseen catastrophes and such are another story, of course.)

DNA test shows Hitler skull is that of a woman

ADOLF Hitler may not have died in a bunker after fresh research suggests the skull thought to be the tyrant's was from a woman.

US archaeologist Nick Bellantoni found fragments from the skull believed to be Hitler's were too thin to be from a male, and suspected it was the remains of a much younger woman, The Sun reports

The View's Whoopi Goldberg on Polanski: 'It Wasn't Rape-Rape'

I know it wasn't rape-rape... All I'm trying to get you to understand, is when we're talking about what someone did,, and what they were charged with,, we have to say what it actually was not what we think it was...,,

Sounds like rape-rape to me according to her logic. Then just plain denial. My head hurts.

  117. JCM: Whoopi needs to read Patterico's post on the subject, complete with an excerpt from the girl's grand jury testimony. (Warning: it gets pretty gross.)And this person calls herself a feminist? Disgusting.

I agree that we need to let justice play out, but the people who signed that petition (including, interestingly, Woody Allen), don't need to stfu.

Besides the more they talk, the more people see them for what they are.

  124. DD,

Back when the Cole was bomb I remember a story, it was a real nice write up about one sailor and his girlfriend on the boat. And how romantic it was that he went and searched the boat to make sure she was okay.

I read the story and wondered why the hormone addled twit wasn't in Leavenworth for leaving his post during a shipboard emergency.

Submarine duty is demanding enough without adding sexual tension. Send and all female crew out on a sub, fine with me.

Polanski is a child abuser, a pedophile, and a rapist.

Such people in my book get no second chances, they go away for good, 1 strike your out, if I really had my way the twigs and berries would be in a jar out side their cell so they could look at them every day.

I just now saw a report on the Swiss TV about Polanskis arrest, at first they mentioned his filmographic accomplishments having some artists praising him and went on in talking about the legal whys and hows.
In conclusion they asked several people of the street and got an entirely different opinion the average Joe 'n Jane will always tell you that the rule of law must be abided by everyone. Even the rich and famous have to be brought before justice. Rape is Rape no matter how one tries to explain it.
    - That showed yet again the moral bearings of the gliteraty as compared to us 'mere mortals'.
    Naught to one!
