JCM, I'm with you. I'm trying to get the .NET installer data on my wife's computer fixed, and if that isn't enough to get one to drink, I don't know what is.
I feel for you sb5k. My hubby is rewriting invoices to his thumb drive. Had them all done earlier but lost power and they are gone. I feel so sorry for him. One of them had lots of parts to list.
WA State Records law says government documents are PUBLIC unless there is a valid reason to keep them confidential. The Queen has just stonewalled on this, the judicial appointment process.
PBJ, I am paranoid about backup. I copy work to another computer or another drive every few minutes, I think. I might waste a lot of time, but I don't lose much. Except the time I thought I had updated something on another computer, used that file, and then overwrote the one with some data that wasn't in the other one. I had to re-construct the data.
The father is a bit of nut, Mars civilization, aliens, paranormal type stuff. Family has been on a couple of TV shows. Lot of early chatter it was just a publicity stunt.
I have two laptops which are kept synced, I have a 1GB Time Capsule which backs up any time the laptops connect. I back up the Time Capsule files to external HDs, which I store at home and at work rotating them.
Everyone please, if you would, pray for my son, and my grandson's safety tonight. They are firefighters, and are presently fighting a fully involved fire at a site the makes chemicals for cleaning products. Several neighborhood evacuations were just implemented.....
I lost it when I saw it. I sw them last night on Jimmy Fallon.
They have a week of specials on TV this month, and that video has parts of it, and there will be a DVD released on 27 October.
I have an article about it that I saved. The Bluetooth version is available from Amazon to pre-order, and there is also supposed to be a DVD, but Amazon is not offering it to pre-buy.
OK, in detail, I have two laptops that I sync; the Mac has time machine and an external backup drive; the Vista machine has an external backup drive AND I backup some work to a Zip drive (I had a bunch of the disks and got a drive for them on closeout, so I figure I'll use it.)
And my desktop died; I'll be replacing it with a NAS RAID 1 box. (EIther Linksys or Netgear; most of the consumer grade ones don't do RAID right - they won't regenerate a new drive, or you can't replace the drives at all.)
And I back up my wife's work to my computer every night. Once I get the NAS system, I'll give her a batch file she can run at the end of the day or anytime to back up.
I am so happy to see you, but under these conditions? They have my prayers, and NY Grampa is a chemist (retired) When I showed him your post, he also will pray for them.
Outisdephilly, your son and grandson are in my prayers. My son in law moved from being a firefighter in Gloucester to being a Maryland state trooper because he wants to be a helicopter paramedic, so I understand.

That'd be something, wouldn't it? I would think they could get charged for emergency services if that were the case.
Outsidephilly - my son in law has only been on the Maryland force for a few months, and is still trying to get in to the helicopter paramedic team. But he is determined to, and is volunteering EMT work to help in that effort.
The crews on the Maryland force are a well oiled machine! Please, keep me up to date on your son-in-law's progress. Wouldn't it be totally cool if he decides to take part in next year's bike run? Because he'll get to meet me if he does!
PBJ said... I know how you feel. Our daughter was a police officer for two years.
I ran volunteer EMT, Paramedic for many years, the police officers are often the first on the scene of a medical call. It was always a relief to see the officers, especially, if it was a domestic matter!
Hye Finally Free - I've been a little bit preoccupied recently, what did you mean when you said the Puffington Host and Rick "Dirty" Sanchez retracted their allegations towards Rush Limbaugh? Do y'all have link(s)?

I'll bet you were glad they were there. They don't like the domestic calls either but it's their job.
Started as a volunteer at 16 years old, as soon as I got my drivers license. Back then we did everything, and I mean everything but drive the rigs.
In my first district if you had a call during the day, we had some retirees guys show up to drive, but the crew would all be high schoolers who wore pagers to school and would leave class.
Our chief held us to high standards, we met and exceeded them.
Hi Realwest: here, here, and here. The damaging PuffHo post now contains this postscript: "Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this post contained quotes attributed to Rush Limbaugh, which Limbaugh has since denied making. As is our policy when a fact in a blog post is called into question, we gave its author 24 hours to substantiate the quote. Since he has not been able to do so, the quotes have been deleted from the post."
And "Dirty" Sanchez twittered: "i’ve know rush. in person,i like him. his rhetoric, however is inexcusably divisive. he’s right tho. we didn’t confirm quote. our bad."
New modus operandi: publish an unsubstantiatable character assassination, wait for it to do maximum damage, then retract.
My closest, most nerve racking call was a domestic. We had confirmation the husband had left so we went in.... husband came back with a shotgun and was PISSED... luckily cops showed up right after he did.

Instead, Ross says some of the bodies may have come from a doctor at the college, running his own outside company, that got bodies from the black market.
Hey PBJ - how about that! Big Government got the same story from the same source - too bad I posted the comment FIRST! LOL! ;' And Finally Free - thanks for the links, much appreciated!
OMG, JCM that's creepy about the bodies. Reminds me of a case in Pasadena years ago where this mortician was selling body parts. He also reportedly killed another mortician. They ran an ambulance company too, really convenient, don't you think.
This was all I could find quickly in re that mortician and his family. The son was the biggest freakshow. I didn't see anything about them trying to kill another mortician, though, but apparently the son tried to kill a DA.
Hey Killian - thanks for that link - when our country was in the best of hands, indeed. I have to admitt, though, that I was surprised at the image of good ole Jerry Ford sneaking a peak at Abe's cards through the pipe smoke! LOL!
For those that might be interested, I have posted my Spaghetti Sauce Recipe at my blog. It is a bit off topic for what I normally put up over there but what the heck. I was having fun.
Hi there Syrah! I hadn't noticed you out here before! Course I haven't been out here much lately or else I'd have made sure to say Welcome to C2!! I read you link to the Spaghetti Sause and then wandered around your blog a bit and came across this quote (in your Nobel Prize column "For the record, I generally agree with the President's approach on foreign policy, but the Nobel Committee did him no favors by giving him the award before he had anything to show for his efforts." And while I certainly agree with you about the Nobel Committe doing Obama no favors, I am curious about your general agreement with Obama's approach on foreign policy. It has been, ah, difficult for me to see a true "policy" or the outline of a true policy from President Obama and wondered if you'd be kind enough to enlighten me on what it is?!
Realwest, I've been busy with my quarterly bookkeeping and getting ready for our Halloween Party so I have't been here enough but did you note that LoFlyer came over here specifically looking for you?

Heh: I know of MainStream Media (MSM has another meaning as well these days ;-)), lamestream media, drive-by media, dinosaur media, state-run media,... but first time I heard the term kamikaze media.
The primary secret to the mix is the two meats and the El Pato Hot Tomato Sauce. If there are any Mexican Mercados near you, they might have it. Otherwise, adding a bit of mild hot sauce might be a good substitute.
Ok Syrah, got it. I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm out of olive oil also so that's on the list now.
I've had that Delaware County, PA, Fire Dept scanner on all evening. It doesn't seem to be the main frequency but about a half an hour ago they had to foam it down since the fire just kept starting up again after they thought it was out. Now it sounds like they are letting some, but not all, firefighters clear. Something is still going on there, though.
Pink, even something other than a white square would be welcome to me. My eyes are not what they used to be.
Tell me about it, PBJ! Mine are giving me fits. After two days of heavy book reading (and a not-bright-enough reading light), things seem worse than usual for me. That old contrast effect is getting me.
They don't make reading lights like they used to, that's for sure. I don't mind those new ones for the hallways, bedroom or whatever but dang, I hate them for reading.
Oy. (It's where I live, you know. Other end of the county though.) I just checked "KYW1060newsradio". This story only made the traffic report, not even the headlines.
I hope it's equally not a big deal for the firefighters!
A priceless exchange on unearned accolades occurs between Mr. Dubois and his pupils in "Starship Troopers" by Robert A. Heinlein: "You! I’ve just awarded you the prize for the hundred-meter dash. Does it make you happy?” “Uh, I suppose it would.” "“No dodging, please. You have the prize - here, I’ll write it out: ‘Grand prize for the championship, one hundred-meter sprint.’ ” He had actually come back to my seat and pinned it on my chest. “There! Are you happy? You value it - or don’t you?” I was sore. First that dirty crack about rich kids - a typical sneer of those who haven’t got it - and now this farce. I ripped it off and chucked it at him. Mr. Dubois had looked surprised. “It doesn’t make you happy?” “You know darn well I placed fourth!” “Exactly! The prize for first place is worthless to you . . . because you haven’t earned it. But you enjoy a modest satisfaction in placing fourth; you earned it."
Oh my. I hadn't heard any of this. All I heard was that they participated in Wife Swap.
That would have been enough, I think. LOL
BAT! F2! Blogspot has a poltergeist that steals avatars. They've been off and on since this afternoon! It's kind of crummy without them - you have to read more!
The boys' parents are storm chasers who appeared twice in the ABC reality show "Wife Swap," most recently in March. The show promoted the Heene family as storm chasers who also "devote their time to scientific experiments that include looking for extraterrestrials and building a research-gathering flying saucer to send into the eye of the storm."
n a 2007 interview with The Denver Post, Richard Heene described becoming a storm chaser after a tornado ripped off a roof where he was working as a contractor and said he once flew a plane around Hurricane Wilma's perimeter in 2005.
Pursuing bad weather was a family activity with the children coming along as the father sought evidence to prove his theory that rotating storms create their own magnetic fields.
Although Richard said he has no specialized training, they had a computer tracking system in their car and a special motorcycle.
Finally Free said... @Syrah: good catch, that Bob Schieffer quote!
A priceless exchange on unearned accolades occurs between Mr. Dubois and his pupils in "Starship Troopers" by Robert A. Heinlein . . .
There are two levels to the problem of Obama's Nobel Peace Prize.
1. It was unearned. Like the example from Starship Troopers, the prize does not represent an accolade for anything that Obama has actually accomplished. Awarding it to Obama so prematurely has done more to highlight what Obama hasn't done than anything that his or our nations enemies could have managed. It mocked him.
2. The unearned prize will now be used as a bludgeon by our nations enemies, such as Hugo Chavez, who will try to make Obama earn it in their favor.
The Nobel Prize Committee has done real harm to the cause of Peace with this one ill considered act. They have mocked the man that they have pinned so much of their hopes on and they have pulled out the rug from under him against those that he may rightly have to deal harshly with.

In my first district if you had a call during the day, we had some retirees guys show up to drive, but the crew would all be high schoolers who wore pagers to school and would leave class.
Our chief held us to high standards, we met and exceeded them.
realwest, I don't know what happened to them - it's a Blogspot thing. They'll be back approximately whenever Blogspot feels like it, I guess.
ReplyDeleteOutsidephilly, I'll keep you informed, especially if he's on the bike ride.
ReplyDeleteTrying again, blogspot ate the first attempt
Hi Realwest: here, here, and here.
ReplyDeleteThe damaging PuffHo post now contains this postscript:
"Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this post contained quotes attributed to Rush Limbaugh, which Limbaugh has since denied making.

ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome!I can't wait to watch it, and also to get the DVD.
Here they are last night on Jimmy Fallon.

I've worn bunker gear, and ballistic vests.....
I can't image wearing both....
Oops, comment got reposted when I hit refresh. Blogger seems to be bloggered up tonight/this morning...
ReplyDeleteg'night friends!
ReplyDeleteI will share up dates the re: fire status tomorrow, if not in the next couple of hours
Grand Ol' Gang
ReplyDelete/when our country was in the very best of hands
Good night, outsidephilly. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteBodies the Exhibition is coming to Seattle.
ReplyDeleteInstead, Ross says some of the bodies may have come from a doctor at the college, running his own outside company, that got bodies from the black market.
Hey PBJ - how about that! Big Government got the same story from the same source - too bad I posted the comment FIRST! LOL!
ReplyDelete;'
And Finally Free - thanks for the links, much appreciated!
outsidephilly
ReplyDeleteTake care, and I am sure that you will have good news!
Please let us know when you find out.
Waiting is so damned hard on you, but you care so much, and could not help but worry.
OMG, JCM that's creepy about the bodies. Reminds me of a case in Pasadena years ago where this mortician was selling body parts. He also reportedly killed another mortician. They ran an ambulance company too, really convenient, don't you think.
ReplyDeleteWill see if I can find a link.
This was all I could find quickly in re that mortician and his family. The son was the biggest freakshow. I didn't see anything about them trying to kill another mortician, though, but apparently the son tried to kill a DA.
ReplyDeleteHey Killian - thanks for that link - when our country was in the best of hands, indeed. I have to admitt, though, that I was surprised at the image of good ole Jerry Ford sneaking a peak at Abe's cards through the pipe smoke!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
For those that might be interested, I have posted my Spaghetti Sauce Recipe at my blog. It is a bit off topic for what I normally put up over there but what the heck. I was having fun.
ReplyDeleteI'll check it out Syrah. BTW, did you see where little old lady is going to have a "domestics" forum at the new CC?
ReplyDeleteFirst hard stimulus data: "Stimulus" created or saved only about 30,000 jobs.
ReplyDelete787 billion to create or save 30,000 jobs? That's, hang on, US$26.2 million per job?

I did see that. I am looking forward to it.
But those jobs lasted on average only 35 hours, or about one work week.
ReplyDeleteHi there Syrah! I hadn't noticed you out here before! Course I haven't been out here much lately or else I'd have made sure to say Welcome to C2!!
ReplyDeleteI read you link to the Spaghetti Sause and then wandered around your blog a bit and came across this quote (in your Nobel Prize column
"For the record, I generally agree with the President's approach on foreign policy, but the Nobel Committee did him no favors by giving him the award before he had anything to show for his efforts."
And while I certainly agree with you about the Nobel Committe doing Obama no favors, I am curious about your general agreement with Obama's approach on foreign policy.
It has been, ah, difficult for me to see a true "policy" or the outline of a true policy from President Obama and wondered if you'd be kind enough to enlighten me on what it is?!
Good middle-of-the-night, folks! Syrah ...c'est bon! Guess what I'm cooking for dinner tomorrow night? ; )
ReplyDeleteHey there Pink! Good evening to you! How are you doing?
ReplyDeleteHi Real! I'm good, Real ...been out of the loop all day and evening but I'm doing to best to get back in it. Lots I've missed .....
ReplyDeleteGrrrrr
Real life intervened etc etc.
How are you!?
Hi Pink! Doesn't that spaghetti sauce look yummy! I always thought I made it pretty well myself but Syrah's recipe looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteHi RealWest,
ReplyDeleteThat quote is from Bob Schieffer, not from me.
I haven't found much that Obama has said or done that I agree with yet.
Syrah, I cried over the song.
ReplyDeleteRead and weep.
ReplyDeleteHey Pink, I've been better, lots better - when y'all get through all your e-mails today you'll understand much better!
ReplyDeleteAh, Syrah I should have known better! My mistook!
ReplyDeleteSorry about that!
Realwest, I've been busy with my quarterly bookkeeping and getting ready for our Halloween Party so I have't been here enough but did you note that LoFlyer came over here specifically looking for you?

The primary secret to the mix is the two meats and the El Pato Hot Tomato Sauce. If there are any Mexican Mercados near you, they might have it. Otherwise, adding a bit of mild hot sauce might be a good substitute.
and friends while it's been fun - well, having fun again for a while, I must leave and get some sleep!
ReplyDeleteI hope you all have a GREAT EVENING/EARLY MORNING, and that I get the chance to see you all down the road!
Good night, all.

I nearly did as well.
It was the most gentle way I could think of to say something that I thought needed to be said.
Sweet dreams Realwest. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteIt was a perfect song. Wish I had thought of it for my little facebook page. I put up "Hit Me With Your Best Shot". LOL
ReplyDeleteGood night RealWest.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to be among friends.
Hi PBJ! It does, it looks scrumptious! Like I said ...guess what I'm cooking tomorrow night?
ReplyDeleteWaiting to hear back from outsidephilly ...
Goodnight, Realwest. Sleep well, my friend. You are in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHeh: I know of MainStream Media (MSM has another meaning as well these days ;-)), lamestream media, drive-by media, dinosaur media, state-run media,... but first time I heard the term kamikaze media.
ReplyDeleteNothing "divine" about that "wind" though ;-)
PINKIE.
ReplyDeleteMan, I miss those avatars!

ReplyDeleteOk Syrah, got it.
ReplyDeleteMan, I miss those avatars!
ReplyDeleteI keep remembering you telling me about the new site ...."the avatars are what people will be seeing" .....you were RIGHT!
/so do I
PBJ ...one of my favorite old songs too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for updating on the Delaware county situation, I kind of figured you'd be listening. (I'm still way behind here, but slowly catching up.)
Pink, even something other than a white square would be welcome to me. My eyes are not what they used to be.
ReplyDeleteDelaware County update: they are getting air instead of foam so checking equipment but the fire doesn't seem to be flaring up.
ReplyDeletePink, even something other than a white square would be welcome to me. My eyes are not what they used to be.
ReplyDeleteTell me about it, PBJ! Mine are giving me fits. After two days of heavy book reading (and a not-bright-enough reading light), things seem worse than usual for me. That old contrast effect is getting me.
I keep remembering you telling me about the new site ...."the avatars are what people will be seeing" .....you were RIGHT!
ReplyDeleteThank you. You are so sweet!
They don't make reading lights like they used to, that's for sure. I don't mind those new ones for the hallways, bedroom or whatever but dang, I hate them for reading.
ReplyDeleteMore firemen are going home so I am going to sleep. Good to be among friends here. Love you all.
ReplyDeleteGood night PBJ! We love you too!!
ReplyDeleteDelaware County, PA, Fire Dept
ReplyDeleteWHAT?! What's going on in Delaware County PA?
Hi littleoldlady!
ReplyDeleteOutsidephilly's son and grandson are fighting a fire ...details are above
Oy. (It's where I live, you know. Other end of the county though.) I just checked "KYW1060newsradio". This story only made the traffic report, not even the headlines.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's equally not a big deal for the firefighters!
I've been out of commission for much of the day. Good to hear that little boy was found okay.
ReplyDeleteHi, lol! Little boy was found okay, but he said something to the media about the family wanting to put on a show, or some such thing - OOPS. LOL
ReplyDeleteI haven't completely kept up on it, though - I saw also that the father said he didn't know what the child was talking about. Ahem.
Sounds like the family was...um...a little strange. KYW said they run around looking for extraterrestals.
ReplyDelete/wheee!

Oh my. I hadn't heard any of this. All I heard was that they participated in Wife Swap.

Oh, I guess I never gave a thought as to how this might look...Mt. Rushmore from the Canadian side
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Everyone! No Avatars?

Hi, littleoldlady!
ReplyDelete"Oh yeah...I knew something was missing! WHA' HAPPENED?"
It wasn't me! I just got here.
@Syrah: good catch, that Bob Schieffer quote!
ReplyDeleteA priceless exchange on unearned accolades occurs between Mr. Dubois and his pupils in "Starship Troopers" by Robert A. Heinlein:
"You! I’ve just awarded you the prize for the hundred-meter dash. Does it make you happy?”
“Uh, I suppose it would.”
"“No dodging, please. You have the prize - here, I’ll write it out: ‘Grand prize for the championship, one hundred-meter sprint.’ ” He had actually come back to my seat and pinned it on my chest. “There! Are you happy? You value it - or don’t you?”
I was sore. First that dirty crack about rich kids - a typical sneer of those who haven’t got it - and now this farce. I ripped it off and chucked it at him.
Mr. Dubois had looked surprised. “It doesn’t make you happy?”
“You know darn well I placed fourth!”
“Exactly! The prize for first place is worthless to you . . . because you haven’t earned it. But you enjoy a modest satisfaction in placing fourth; you earned it."
Good night to all those not on the graveyard shift or Euro time!
ReplyDeleteLet me get this straight... there's a US reality show called "Wife swap"?
ReplyDeleteI think I need Alka-Seltzer... ;-)
What about us Insomnimaniacs?!
ReplyDeleteHi Finally Free! :-)
I don't know what it CALLED, but yes there is such a show.
ReplyDeleteTwo women trade places, and usually the conflict is about mothering someone else's kids or dealing with someone else's messy house.
I think. I watched it once, a long time ago. It's disgusting.
Oh my. I hadn't heard any of this. All I heard was that they participated in Wife Swap.
ReplyDeleteThat would have been enough, I think. LOL
BAT! F2! Blogspot has a poltergeist that steals avatars. They've been off and on since this afternoon! It's kind of crummy without them - you have to read more!
Now I'm going to have to look up this story and get the skinny on what they DID do exactly...sheesh! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe boys' parents are storm chasers who appeared twice in the ABC reality show "Wife Swap," most recently in March. The show promoted the Heene family as storm chasers who also "devote their time to scientific experiments that include looking for extraterrestrials and building a research-gathering flying saucer to send into the eye of the storm."
ReplyDeleteLinky
Sounds like they put the FUN in dysFUNctional! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi CC. I backtracked and got the answer.I'm OK now. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyone know how the hoaxing Heene's earned a living?
ReplyDeleteThe article says...
ReplyDeleten a 2007 interview with The Denver Post, Richard Heene described becoming a storm chaser after a tornado ripped off a roof where he was working as a contractor and said he once flew a plane around Hurricane Wilma's perimeter in 2005.
Pursuing bad weather was a family activity with the children coming along as the father sought evidence to prove his theory that rotating storms create their own magnetic fields.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Richard said he has no specialized training, they had a computer tracking system in their car and a special motorcycle.
They're Professional Nuts.

ReplyDeleteFalcon Heene: "We did this for the show". Has everyone seen that with Wolf Blitzer?
ReplyDeleteYeah, well anyone who appears on Wife Swap TWICE just may be a publicity seeker...
ReplyDelete/Ya think? ;-)
...or an exhibitionist!
Or media WHORES!
ReplyDeleteI hope they can be prosecuted. Every "emergency" always puts rescuers in some kind of danger. It is wrong to mobilize responders to phony emergencies.

They have made the world less safe.

Howdy to Pink and C2, as well, but I'm not sure they're still here.
HI Pi Guy,I agree. It is a classic example of opportunity cost with lives a stake.
ReplyDeleteFrom Instapundit:
ReplyDeleteRANDY BARNETT: “I just received another urgent message from the Democratic National Committee, which continues its civil discourse on the merits of health care reform. It seems that someone else is a lying liar who is telling lies but the DNC does not identify what exactly is being misrepresented. Neither does the video to which it links.” They’ve outsource identifying liars to Rachel Maddow, and Rachel Maddow has outsourced identifying the lies to . . . nobody.
My day draws to a close.

It must be the time of year where kids start getting into trouble.
ReplyDeleteIt was October 16th, 1987 when the world watched Jessica McClure being rescued from the well. She's now a 23-year-old Jessica Morales, who will be getting her trust-fund from well-wishers in less than 2 years.
Goodnight, Syrah.

ReplyDeletePi Guy,
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's 21st birthday is tomorrow. So far she's locked her keys in the car and (probably) flunked a math test.
I have to remember to tell her to have cab fare on hand wherever she goes...
Pi Guy, I watched the rescue with my then 5 year old daughter.I explained to her what was happening. I'm glad the rescuers were not out chasing a balloon.
ReplyDeleteFruitcupstairs!
ReplyDeletelittleoldlady, please tell her that someone named BatGuano wishes her a happy birthday.
