  13. Good post Ayatollah.

His presidency is in a tailspin nine months in.

  23. And now some news from Rasmussen:

What They Told Us: Reviewing Last Week’s Key Polls
    Saturday, October 03, 2009
Sometimes, as the old saying goes, the devil’s in the details.
Most U.S. voters (54%) believe that major changes are needed in the U.S. health care system. Sixty-one percent (61%) say it’s important for Congress to pass health care legislation this year.

The problem is that just 41% of voters nationwide now favor the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s the lowest level of support yet measured. Fifty-six percent (56%) are opposed to the plan.

The gap between a desire for change and support for the current Congressional plan helps explain why voters overwhelmingly prefer a series of smaller reforms that address specific problems rather than a comprehensive overhaul of the health care system.

As Democrats in Congress struggle with the details, only 22% of voters believe that most members of Congress will understand what is in the health care plan before they vote on it. Fifty-three percent (53%) say the legislators are not very or not at all likely to have read the plan before they vote.
Even as most members of Congress endured a dicey August recess, voters already thought they understood the health care reform plan better than their congressional representatives did.

  24. I think the Dems are going to try and pass Obama's plan by any means necessary. And, if they do, I can almost see the coming storm for all Blue Dogs and many other Dem. Reps in close districts.

They have already said that Cap N' Tax is going to wait....this may be Obama's only workable goal this year and into the first part of next year.

  25. RACIST!

Big Police Departments Back Anti-Terror Citizen Watch

Using brochures, public service announcements and meetings with community groups, iWATCH is designed to deliver concrete advice on how the public can follow the oft-repeated post-9/11 recommendation: "If you see something, say something." Program materials list nine types of suspicious behavior that should prompt people to call police and 12 kinds of places to look for it.

    [snip]

But American Civil Liberties Union policy counsel Mike German, a former FBI agent who worked on terrorism cases, said the indicators are all relatively common behaviors. And he suspects people will fall back on personal biases and preconceived stereotypes of what a terrorist looks like when making the decision to report someone to the police.

"That just plays into the negative elements of society and doesn't really help the situation," German said.

/remember when it was called "being a good citizen"? :-/

    And possibly ENDANGERING everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hey littleoldlady! From your link:
    "Among the indicators:

    • If you smell chemicals or other fumes.

    • If you see someone wearing clothes that are too big and too heavy for the season.

    • If you see strangers asking about building security.

    • If you see someone purchasing supplies or equipment that could be used to make bombs.

The important places to watch include: government buildings, mass gatherings, schools and public transportation.

The Major Cities Chiefs Association, headed by Bratton and comprised of the chiefs of the 63 largest police departments in the United States and Canada, was expected to endorse iWATCH at its conference in Denver on Saturday as a model for all its communities.

"It's really just common sense types of things," Bratton said.

"That just plays into the negative elements of society and doesn't really help the situation," German said."
Oh yeah, Mr. German, reporting chemical smells, and folks wearing much larger than normal clothing at places where large numbers of people are gathered is a violation of civil liberties.
Say, did you leave the FBI voluntarily to go to work for the ACLU or is it where you were headed when you decided to improve your creds by joining the FBI first?

The Dems are going to try and pass it anyway. I would not be surprised if they opt for the nuclear option. They have the votes if a simple majority is all they need. The question is will they? With Obama, Reid and Pelosi....I can see those three doing it. The Public Option is on life support right now, but it's not dead.

These guys are like the Terminator...they never give up, ever...until either Sarah Connor is dead or Socialized Medicine is the land of the land.

I hope they keep pushing it, the right is awake and ready for action now....let's hope Obama & Co. can keep that going with their vain and idiotic policies long enough for the midterms to dwarf 1994!

  37. Hi Atilla - I suspect a LOT of them are headed for cover, but I also suspect that they'll push like hell to get some sort of Health Care bill or maybe Cap and Trade passed this year.
It won't look good to the voters if the Dems', with control of the White House and both houses of Congress can't get SOMETHING passed during Obama's first year as president; and don't forget blaming Bush for everything is already not playing well with voters, especially the 9.8%
unemployment rate which I strongly suspect will top 10% (regrettably) by years' end. Even if they have to use the "nuclear option" to get something passed, they'll just blame Republicans anyway - although I would hope the voting public would understand what the Nuclear Option really means: that the Democratic Party is saying "Screw You" NOT just to the GOP but to all those Independent voters as well.

    ReplyDelete

  41. The Dems are reluctant to pull the trigger on the nuclear option, just like the Republicans were when the Dems started blocking every court nominee.

They know it would put ALL of the blame on their shoulders. They also know it would cause a backlash that would probably push them all out of power.

They are blaming the Republicans right now....the Party of NO...blah, blah, blah...

I find it pathetic that the Dems did what the Republicans are doing now, but 10x worse...yet, they squeal like stuck pigs when it's done to them. Hypocritical on your part, Democrats!

    How's that green working?

Seattle's new City Hall is an energy hog

The high energy use is an embarrassment for the city at a time when Mayor Greg Nickels is urging municipalities across the country to cut their energy consumption and voluntarily comply with the Kyoto environmental protocols.

  73. A great, righteous man has passed away.

Marek Edelman (zichrono livracha) - the last surviving leader of the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto uprising - has passed away at the age of ninety.

In 1942, Edelman was one of the founders of the Jewish Fighting Organization (ZOB) which united Bundists, Zionists, communists and others to confront the Nazi threat. The uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto the following year was the first act of mass civilian resistance in Nazi-occupied Poland - a salient fact that should be remembered by those who portray the victims of the Holocaust as having passively accepted their fate. …..
