Helen Thomas to White House: End Fox fight

Veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas on Monday advised the Obama administration to stand down and avoid fighting with Fox News and its correspondents.

In an interview with MSNBC, the columnist -- who is promoting her new book on presidents and their campaigns -- also stressed the White House ought to "stay out of these fights."

"They can only take you down. You can't kill the messenger," said Thomas, who has covered every president from John F. Kennedy to Barack Obama.

GOPers to appear with ACORN filmmakers

Two Republican lawmakers on Wednesday will appear alongside two filmmakers who secretly shot footage of ACORN workers, sparking Congress to strip the group's federal funding.

Reps. Steve King (R-Iowa) and Thad McCotter (R-Mich.) are scheduled offer brief remarks at a Washington, D.C. press conference featuring James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles -- two conservative activists who posed as a pimp and prostitute -- to whom ACORN officials offered financial advice.

Baucus responds to claims of 'closed-door' health deal

Senate Finance Committee chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) on Monday sought to squash claims that Democratic leaders were drafting final healthcare reform legislation behind closed doors.

The key senator instead said that the bill has been "drafted by all senators" since he and other Senate leaders have spent time taking input from other members of the upper chamber.

"The fact of the matter is that it's been drafted by all senators in the sense that I've spent a large amount of my time talking to senators, meeting with groups of Senators," he said during a teleconference with reporters today. "I know [Senate Banking Committee chairman Chris] Dodd is doing the same thing, Senator Reid is doing the same thing."

"It was curiosity born of great innocence," recalled Kurt Starke, 70, a sociologist and sex expert in Leipzig, eastern Germany.

"Couples went to sex shops, sometimes with grandmothers holding a child by the hand. We wanted to discover everything the West had to offer."

Israeli doctors were invited to the event as well, and several had planned to attend. However, on Sunday night, the doctors received brief notices telling them that they were no longer invited to the conference, by order of Egyptian Health Minister Hatem el-Gabali.
