Tomorrow is Halloween! C2 has been celebrating all this week, by introducing after-pub posts with a fun, scary Halloween classic!
And now, let's turn to some classical music by Modest Mussorgsky and Franz Schubert. What does this have to do with Halloween? Very little, unless you turn to Disney's original 1940 film Fantasia, which combined Ave Maria and Night on Bald Mountain in a piece title after the latter work.
It begins with the demon Chernabog, who summons restless souls from their graves on Walpurgis night...
Huh, huh!
ReplyDeleteAh say HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, Brandy! Hahahah!
ReplyDeleteYou know, Bambi ...I never DID find that bastard!
You will take this Bud Light out of my um ... okay it would not be hard to do it right now ... but anyway ...
ReplyDeleteI hope you all brought your drinks! You can have them up here. Brandy and I have to go clean up and lock up downstairs. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteAvatar hit!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha Brandy! I just love that!
ReplyDeleteSquatch,
ReplyDeleteAvatar hit!

And now they hide.
Squatch ... great I have not seen mine in some time ... I am thinking about changing my nic to my old nic and my old avatar ... well, maybe when the new place comes online ...
ReplyDeleteLoflyer, I brought it on up for you.
ReplyDeleteGROG.

ReplyDeleteLoFlyer ... my favorite pirate .... an a song for my old friend who I miss very much ...
ReplyDeleteSlippin Away ...
Can some of the more savvy here help me out. How do you embed a link to another web page? How do you reply to poster that has the comment in italics? How do you change your avatar? (I don't mind the flag, but the current face needs go..)
ReplyDeleteOHHH! Lookeee what I found, Loflyer!
ReplyDeleteGROG.
How do you get that Blogger "B" embedded in your avatar?
ReplyDeleteCan we keep it until after the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale is over, Squatch? Pretty please??
ReplyDeleteHell yeahs.
Hit the ceiling on that fucker.
:)
If DEZ sees a charge for $895 show up on his credit card, and he sees me in these, will he make the connection? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...ah say, hmmmmmmmmmm! : )
ReplyDeleteTo embed a link, loflyer, use the html:
ReplyDelete<*a href="http://www.yahoo.com">here<*/a>
Cut and paste that into the comment box, remove the asterisks, insert your url in place of the yahoo link above, and insert your text (ex: GROG) where it says 'here'.
To italicize something you wish to reply to, use <*i> at the beginning of your cut and paste of the quote, and <*/i> at the end. Remove asterisks first.
CtheP,
ReplyDeleteHow do you get that Blogger "B" embedded in your avatar?
---
In not having an avatar inn the first place. Every one who has got an avatar uploaded won't have that Blogger B embedded.
If DEZ sees a charge for $895 show up on his credit card, and he sees me in these, will he make the connection? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...ah say, hmmmmmmmmmm! : )
ReplyDeleteOH MY!
Can I borrow them, please!?
If DEZ sees a charge for $895 show up on his credit card, and he sees me in these, will he make the connection?
ReplyDeleteJust don't wear 'em the nights he's here.
You sure can, sis! Be sure and thank DEZ! ; )
ReplyDeleteCallahan! I was wondering if you'd left! You're very quiet tonight. :-)
ReplyDeleteYa know, BWBi and BWBy, judging from your avatars, you aren't just sisters, you are freakin' (heh) identical twins!
ReplyDeleteGood idea, Squatch! Hahahah, poor DEZ!
ReplyDeleteCtheP, we look alot alike! Really alot!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brandy, unfortunately I am not a HTTP kind of guy. I was hoping there was some button or keystroke to do it. And that was some damn good grog......
ReplyDeleteCallahan -- gracias -- I was just funnin' with you after all your "How do I" questions...
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love this song? ...
ReplyDeleteAngie ...
Dang I lost three auctions while on here ... I better pay attention ... blah ..
LoFlyer, the boss said we'll have all that in the new website. It will be easy there. I need it!
ReplyDeleteAre you ladies sure you don't want a pair of these ?
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry Brandy. I have been watching those videos you all were posting and simply couldn't catch up.
ReplyDeletePlus my reaction time is slow after a week of working CV's.
The deal about the B in the Avatar is the user is logged in via "Blogger" which is located at
ReplyDeletehttp://www.blogger.com
LoFlyer, the boss said we'll have all that in the new website. It will be easy there. I need it!
ReplyDeleteSoon! Very soon!
Ooooh, Squatch, those look like fun!
ReplyDeleteCallahan -- my bad, it was LoFlyer who asked the original questions with whom I was funnin'...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads-up, though...
LoFlyer -- thanks, I was just having fun with your earlier post...
ReplyDeleteZig, I really liked the Keith Richards vid, is this the Rolling Stones Keith Richards or am I mixed up due to grog.
ReplyDeleteCtheP no problems and no offense taken.
ReplyDeleteCtheP If you can't take a joke then get out of the kitchen. (or off the blog!)
ReplyDeleteLoFlyer -- you tawkin' to me?
ReplyDeleteDamn, Squatch! One of my favorite songs ever!
ReplyDeleteDamn, Squatch! One of my favorite songs ever!
ReplyDeleteReally ? Great band.
Alive, alive, ohh
ReplyDeletealive, alive ohh...
Word of advice; if you drink any malted beverage with the word "Rochefort" on the label, do not attempt to operate heavy machinery afterwards.
And by "heavy machinery", I mean such things as staplers, keychains, pencils...
CtheP, nah the other blogger with the same name. Damnit Zig you would have to bring up Angie, the last girl that I was whole-heartedly head over heals in love with! Arrrgh!
ReplyDeleteOR -- yes, they will definitely do damage. But, that's why we drink 'em (me rarely, as I prefer wine or drinks)...
ReplyDeleteReally ?
ReplyDeleteYes. Really.
And this one too. Jukebox.
OR, isn't there a 'forte' like 'strong' in Rochefort.
ReplyDelete/
LoFlyer -- heh...
ReplyDeleteDamn, it's really good to see you guys again...
/wine talkin'
Callahan, did you answer me earlier question about Argie vs. Uruguay accents?
ReplyDeleteLoFlyer ... sorry ... hey we all have "someone" in the past that still makes us crazy ... I am sure you don't remember me but I am JacksonTN ... yep ... bitter clinger ... so glad to see you around .... you talk like a pirate every single day if you want to ... I actually love a pirate kind of guy ... sigh ..
ReplyDeleteThe 80s.
ReplyDeleteSheesh.
What were we thinking?
ReplyDeleteDamn, it's really good to see you guys again...
Cheers! Damn straight, CtheP. :-)
OR,
ReplyDeleteyou asked: Say, how easily can you distinguish an Argie accent from Uruguyan? It's still hard for me.
I answered:
I cannot very well. I only really lived in Argentina up to when I was 7. Then again for that year in the 80s in my mid-twenties. My Castellano is not the best to put it mildly.
My best second language is English by far.
Cheers!
ReplyDelete/I drink to forget the 70s...
CtheP--
ReplyDeleteme rarely, as I prefer wine
Well, ooh la-la, Mr. Park Avenue Manicure!
//
Or ... yep you gonna kill me for this but can you tell an Argie from an Urguyan by feel? ... um ... just wondering ... blah ....
ReplyDeleteAnd this one too
ReplyDeleteExcellent.
But Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can top this
///////
Cal--
ReplyDeleteI only really lived in Argentina up to when I was 7.
I thought your raices were uruguayas?! Why did I think that?
My best second language (and I'm very good at it -- years of practice) is slurring... ;)
ReplyDeleteCtheP, yep its good to be among friends, Zig, Angie is a great song and yes it is also one of my favs, I am trying to remember my other fav Rolling Stone song can't think of its name. one line is "love is just a kiss away". Can't think of the name for some reason...
ReplyDeleteOR -- the wine, actually, is strictly a health thing. Switched years ago when my weight and BP went up. Weight and BP went down. Got lazy and weight and BP went back up (dammit)! Though I still drink wine (and have lost most of the weight again).
ReplyDeleteOR - I was born there by German parents. Who lived in BsAs at the time. But there is other family in Uruguay so they figured to get me there.
ReplyDeleteCtheP, if you can't type its time to quit bkoghing!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteExcellent.
But Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can top this
Squatch, squatch, squatch .....we need to talk, dude.
/tsk tsk! ;-)
LoFlyer ... did you think I would not recognize those lyrics .. yep son ...
ReplyDeleteLove is just a kiss away ... also know as Gimme Shelter ... G_d knows we need it now ..
LoFlyer -- si ym tpyngi thta bda?
ReplyDeleteThanks Zig! I'll be back in a minute!
ReplyDeleteCtheP,
ReplyDeleteMy best second language (and I'm very good at it -- years of practice) is slurring... ;)
--
For some reason I am very bad at accents. Lived in different areas of Germany and managed after a while to understand the dialect yet speaking it myself ?! Hell, no! Would come out all wrong.
LoFlyer ... did you think I would not recognize those lyrics .. yep son ...
ReplyDeleteLoFlyer ...Zigzag's got the touch, the Queen of Rock and Roll right here ...and the Blues ...and Delta music ...she's got it all up there in her head.
Squatch, squatch, squatch .....we need to talk, dude.
ReplyDeleteYou know what cracks me up the most about that video ?
A Strat with a Floyd Rose.
(double locking tremolo in case you didn't know)
WTF are the effin' BeeGees gonna do with that thing ?
Total waste...
Goodnight all, I gotta run! See you wonderful folks tomorrow! :-)
ReplyDeleteCallahan -- I've always felt that the worst accent I do is Italian, and I very specifically remember my father's relatives from Italy speaking with a thick accent.
ReplyDeleteFunny how that works. I can do a few others and they sound okay to me (and other people).
Damn shame that, in this day and age, if you break out in an Irish brogue you are a comedian and if you break out in an Indian impression you are automatically a racist...
G'night {Brandy}!
ReplyDeleteSquatch, g'nite sweetheart! See you tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteNite Brandy !
ReplyDelete*blows a kiss*
Jukebox
ReplyDelete/calm down, don't make me escalate further
Thanks for the service, Brandy, your are a fine girl, what a fine wife you would make!
ReplyDeleteLittle Queen of Spades ... oh Eric ... I would post the original by Robert Johnson but is is not to most peoples liking ...
ReplyDeleteLittle Queen of Spades ... they all owe the living to the old guys ...
I am here late.
ReplyDeleteBOO!
But your life, your love, and your lady -- is the sea...
ReplyDeleteDEZ
ReplyDeleteVery! ;-)
Me, I'm very good at accents... much better than I am at the underlying language! I utter a few words in French, and French people are convinced that I speak good French. (Used to be true, no longer is.) Ditto, Portugese.
ReplyDelete(Although my Spanish does match my accent, although my accent confuses the hell out of native Spanish-speakers... they think I'm from a Spanish-speaking country, but always one that's very far away from their own!)
Callahan, you have to have the oddest sleep pattern of anyone I have ever known.
ReplyDeleteFor some odd reason it makes me smile.
Internet Turns 40 Today: First Message Crashed System
ReplyDeleteEveryone surfing for last-minute Halloween costumes and pictures of black Lolcats today—what you might call the 40th anniversary of the Internet—can give thanks to the simple network message that started it all: "lo."
On October 29, 1969, that message became the first ever to travel between two computers connected via the ARPANET, the computer network that would become the Internet.
The electronic dispatch was supposed to be the word "login," but only the first two letters were successfully sent before the system crashed.
Still, that humble greeting marked the start of a phenomenon that has become such an important part of modern life that many experts argue access to it should be a right rather than a privilege.
Thank God for military research, it not only keeps us safe, it improves our lives, money well spent.
/we've come a long way from 50 kbps phone lines baby!
CtheP, unfortunate but true, I have two hobbies that are incompatible, sailing and skiing, and they are both expensive...
ReplyDeleteHey C2er's. Just got back from my first of three Halloween parties. Tonight was just a warm up. I am so looking forward to the other two. :)
ReplyDeleteKillian, give me 70 miles of fiber and about 70 grand and I can deliver 300 gig a second to your door, and this is off the shelf equipment. No one has any idea of what the limits are as far as data communication are concerned. We are doing things unimaginable two decades ago.
ReplyDeleteLoFlyer -- well, I guess, in the right weather and with a really good sailboat, you could ski...
ReplyDeleteLoFlyer -- what ISP or would that be included?
ReplyDeleteLoFlyer said...

/you're kidding, right?
OR - my Spanish is porteno. And I pronounce the double L and the Y like them, very soft 'sh' sound.
ReplyDeleteI have no clue as to my English pronunciation, my best guess would be mid-atlantic. Which translates for some Americans as British and vice versa.
I also can pronounce French pretty decently, yet my vocabulary is very limited so I instinctively switch to Spanish words, which doesn't go down well with the French at all.
My mentioning of not being good at dialects referred to switching in a known language between different regional slangs.
Hey Cal you are up late.
ReplyDeleteCtheP, its been done with a sailboat and there are videos to prove it. but I am not talking water skiing, I am talking snow skiing which is terrible hobby when you 10 hours from a bad ski-slope. (the south sux when it comes to skiing) Sailboats, at least big ones cost to damn much, but you can lease 'em for a week down in the Bahamas and its a lot of fun....
ReplyDeleteDEZ,
ReplyDeleteCallahan, you have to have the oddest sleep pattern of anyone I have ever known.

I did take a long sleep right after I got home from work. If not for that I couldn't be awake now. But I am getting there again. ;-)
Cal::
ReplyDeleteI have no clue as to my English pronunciation, my best guess would be mid-atlantic.
Here's a test: Read out loud the word "Baltimore".
Does it come out "Bawlmore, hon"?
//
OR - I certainly have a smallish T hidden in that cities name. ;-)
ReplyDeleteKillian, I am not interest in kite skiing although I am seeing more of it. There is video floating around of a snowboarder skiing in the mountains and the wind is so strong it lefts him about 200 foot in the air, the kid does all these flips and and after a minute or so he nails the touch down. This guy was seconds from death and he made it look easy...
ReplyDeleteErik, as you said it is Halloween weekend. I have set out to be up late to be with y'all.
ReplyDeleteFuck that white stuff Kite Surf
ReplyDeleteLoFlyer -- I knew you meant snow, silly...
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna fix some dinner, you all have a great evening! May check in later...
CTP, I can't give you an ISP with that one, latest quote I saw was 45 meg a second for 4 grand a month.
ReplyDeleteGuys I just wanted to say hi!
ReplyDeleteSome things have put me in a really foul mood.
Its best I just not post tonight.
I will call it self restraint, for lack of a better term.
Your the best of the best.
Nite, CtheP, Guys I think I am going to hang it up for the evening. I smashed my knee earlier today, and it has stiffened up. I can't wait to see what it looks and feels like tomorrow! Happy Halloween and drive safe!

ReplyDeleteAhhh, crap. So I got my new Magic Mouse from Mac, but I realize that to take full advantage of it, I have to finally get around to upgrading to Leopard, or Snow Leopard. Which means, dropping the dough to do so.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, I had a sublimely awesome professional massage earlier this evening. I'm still blissed from it.
Hey DEZ check your mail, buddy.

Hi y'all - got some time to play for a while tonight/this morning cause I really screwed up my medication routine and am almost an hour late in getting all of 'em inside me!
ReplyDeleteHow is everyone doing and ETR - are you saying you got a new HP Laptop loaded with Windows 7 AND you bought 3 extra copies of the Windows 7 system? Why did you do that? Can't you make recovery discs (DVDs) from your laptop?
Hey rw. I bought the extra copies for my other computers. I have 3 at home, besides mine. One for each of my girls.
ReplyDeleteWell, if realwest's here, I'm bloody well leaving.
ReplyDelete/just kidding... heading out anyway... good night!
ETR, that was right thoughty of you; sure hope you like Windows 7 and so do your girls!
ReplyDeleteWhat were ya running before?
And commenter maudgonne just got a new Dell laptop - as in brand spanking new and it has the good ole XP-Pro on it! She didn't want VISTA or 7!!
I've grown accostomed to VISTA and with 5 Gigs of RAM it operates pretty well and very quickly!
Today's Best of the Web quotes an editorial in liberal German news magazine Der Spiegel:
ReplyDelete"Obama's silence stands in contrast with the impassioned rhetoric that carried him into the White House. He risks squandering the biggest advantage of his term in office: the serious attempt to make an honest assessment of his predecessor's legacy. It also represented a great opportunity to restructure the Atlantic alliance. But why should countries like Germany and France believe the verbose promises of a president who is not even sending a clear message at home, even though he has a majority in both houses of Congress?
There is no doubt that hardly a day passes in Europe without criticism of US policy. This has become a trans-Atlantic ritual. But despite this ritual, Europeans are still looking for one thing from the White House: leadership.
We're waiting, Mr. President.
"

ReplyDeleteI am coming from XP. The other computers are Vista. My new laptop has 4Gigs and the others between 2 and 4. Only time will tell. I will be having all of them cleaned up before 7 is installed.
Well ETR, I'd love to hear how 7 compares to XP!
