Looks like Billy Carter's gas station in Plains, Ga., is about to be recognized as a national historic landmark.
If the U.S. House gives its OK this afternoon to HR 1471, the National Park Service site honoring President Jimmy Carter will be doubled to include the Billy Carter Service Station museum.
Billy Carter, Jimmy Carter's brother, died in 1988.
CQPolitics.com reports that the Congressional Budget Office expects that adding 30 more acres to the current Carter presidential site would cost about $17 million over five years.

If you spend any time looking at social media demographics, there’s one stat you see over and over: women dominate the space. Facebook, MySpace, Twitter — all are more popular with women than men.
So it was a bit jarring this week to see that 67% of bloggers are male, according to the newest installment of the Technorati State of the Blogosphere report.
Admittedly, this isn’t a new stat. In least year’s report, Technorati’s survey put the male blogger ratio at 66%. But compared to the other mainstream social media activities, it seems bizarrely guy-heavy.

It won't go far on this trip, but NASA hopes it will eventually take astronauts beyond low Earth orbit and -- someday -- on to Mars.
This launch follows a less-than-wholehearted endorsement by the Augustine Commission, the presidential panel that spent this past year reviewing the future of the U.S. space program.
The Ares is supposed to replace the 30-year-old space shuttle, which is scheduled to quit flying by the end of 2011 after six more missions. Ares, the commission concluded, will cost too much and take too long to really be a practical replacement. The plan was to have it ready to fly by 2015, but 2017 is more realistic. NASA's only option, meanwhile, to get astronauts to the space station is to buy seats on the Russian Soyuz.
To get to the moon and then eventually go on to Mars will take much more money and technology than the U.S. space program has now, according to a report released today by an independent panel convened, at White House request, under former aerospace executive Norman Augustine.
The Augustine Commission made several recommendations today for NASA:

So, we've got six more shuttle flights to go and Obama's thinking of cancelling the replacement program. Priorities, Obama can spend a trillion dollars on Democrat pet projects and call it "stimulus", but he can't seem to finde a few billion dollars for NASA.

I used to work for a large online sports community; I reported on professional sports (NFL/MLB) and was a content coordinator for the sports page. I was treated better than I would have expected in that environment, but the first thing my boss told me was not to use my real name or anything close to it online. He himself had been threatened, and he knew better.
A couple of years ago someone on a sports board harassed me like you would not believe - he wouldn't leave me alone. I couldn't say anything without a response from him - sexual, crude - just one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I had made friends there and I'm not the type to cede ground to a person like that, and I finally found a way to make him stop - but it sucked, let me tell ya.

I think what the problem is, is when using strong and a link together. If you do a regular link, in the story, it should look regular.

I wouldn't look for it to be there by the time we move in, but I'm sure the extras will develop as we live in the site. I know a lot of people got great use out of it! (I only had about ten things in mine...I kept forgetting it was there!)

I'm doing OK.
I kept wondering about all the British people I was meeting at work today. I've met plenty of them now and then, but I never saw such a steady stream of people from Wales, England and Scotland!
It turns out that just this past weekend, British Airways began direct service to Las Vegas from Heathrow.
Hey, given the exchange rate and the directness of travel, that should help give the Vegas economy a boost!

According to the British Airways page, a round-trip flight and a 3-night stay at Palace Station (the casino at which OJ tried to take his stuff back at gunpoint) starts at $700/person.

Oh, did you happen to change the way links look in posts, too? I noticed a change there...they're underlining in red now or something. I have no idea when that started (maybe around the time we had that sudden return to defaults).

Links that haven't been visited have had a light blue color since C2 began.
Have you ever noticed when you click on a link, and then come back to C2 and look at the same link, it was now gray?
I never liked that grey, as it looked too "washed out", so I just now changed it to a dark blue.
Here's a new link to demonstrate:

See how it's a light blue? Click on it, and the return to this page. It should now be a darker blue, denoting that the link has been "visited".

($titlecolor isn't standard CSS - that's a special code that only works in blogger)
Jack, we're just working out issues with the comment system, but other than that, almost everything is in place. I think you'll really like it.
ReplyDeleteWe should be ready by the latter part of the weekend (I hope I hope I hope) - Killian says we should move in now and work out the kinks as we go, which I guess is a pretty good seal of approval.
It's going to be very different from here - a lot of room to stretch out, lots of different topics to talk about all at once, in different "rooms". Should be fun (and actually less pressure for contributors than this place).

It's in the code and editable. If you or Bare know CSS, and would like to change it, go for it! (Just make sure you research Blogspot's special codes like $titlecolor first!)
I think what the problem is, is when using strong and a link together. If you do a regular link, in the story, it should look regular.
He hasn't added a favorites feature, but he's got a wishlist started over there and I'll put it on there on your behalf.

I wouldn't look for it to be there by the time we move in, but I'm sure the extras will develop as we live in the site. I know a lot of people got great use out of it! (I only had about ten things in mine...I kept forgetting it was there!)
