Grayson: Republicans are 'the enemy of America'
Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) fired his latest salvo at Republicans on Wednesday evening, calling them "the enemy of America."
The congressman, who gained attention for saying the GOP's health plan is for the ill to "die quickly," made his remark in response to Sen. Lamar Alexander's (R-Tenn.) comment today warning the Obama administration to not draft a Nixonian "enemies list."
Grayson said on MSNBC that the GOP is the enemy of anybody who wants "anything good for this country," including healthcare reform, climate change legislation and "anyone who wants peace."
He also took a swipe at Fox News, saying that 99 percent of Americans have the "good sense" not to tune into the network.
Pelosi says she 'definitely' has 218 votes for health bill
House Democrats "definitely" have a health reform bill right now that could win 218 votes in the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday.
The speaker expressed confidence in her ability to pass legislation including a public (or "government-run") option, arguing that scoring from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) would affect what that public plan will look like in final legislation.
Treasury to order bailed-out firms to slash pay
The Treasury Department is expected in the next few days to order companies that received huge government bailouts last year to slash the base salaries of their top executives by an average of 90 percent and cut their total compensation in half, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The cuts apply to the 25 highest paid executives at the seven companies that received the most assistance, the person said Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the decision has not been announced. Smaller companies and those that have repaid the bailout money, including Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co., are not affected.
Obama: Men still 'obtuse' on sharing family duties
President Barack Obama says his family is like a lot of others—in which the men "need to be knocked across the head every once in a while" in order to see imbalances between the time moms and dads put into raising children.
"There's no doubt that our family, like a lot of families out there, were ones in which the men are still a little obtuse about this stuff," Obama said Wednesday in an interview with NBC.
He acknowledged things are different now for his wife, Michelle, and him given that they live in the White House with all its creature comforts and army of residence staff.
Yesss, still waiting for my prize ...
ReplyDeleteHelp! I'm all alone ...

I think Obama needs a clue bat across the head. It's nice he has more time to spend with his family now that he has all that staff to take care of the minor stuff. Now when will he start taking care of the important stuff like leading and governing?

ReplyDeletehttp://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2009/10/cheneys_speech_tonight_1.asp#more
"Most anyone who is given responsibility in matters of national security quickly comes to appreciate the commitments and structures put in place by others who came before. You deploy a military force that was planned and funded by your predecessors. You inherit relationships with partners and obligations to allies that were first undertaken years and even generations earlier. With the authority you hold for a little while, you have great freedom of action. And whatever course you follow, the essential thing is always to keep commitments, and to leave no doubts about the credibility of your country’s word.
So among my other concerns about the drift of events under the present administration, I consider the abandonment of missile defense in Eastern Europe to be a strategic blunder and a breach of good faith. ..."

Good morning Corre∫pondence Committee! About those salary reductions at Banks, this is a repost in part from the prior thread:
ReplyDeleteAnd now Obama& Company want the TARP funds made available to smaller and "community based" banks.
I don't remember that salary reduction crap EVER being discussed or even IN the TARP bill, and if not, I guarantee they'll be litigation over this. Someone loans you money and doesn't dislcose all the loan terms at the time of the making of the loan, ought not be able to go ahead and make 'em up as they go along, ya know?!
Reposted from the previous thread.
ReplyDeleteThe pig is hopping around but not quite flying:
UN chief calls on Hizbullah to disarm
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warned that the presence of armed Hizbullah and Palestinian terrorists in Lebanon is contributing to tensions and insecurity and could eventually lead to a resumption of hostilities.
Of course, these groups aren't going to disarm voluntarily, and the UN isn't going to force them, and if Israel does something, they'll be condemned, but it's a start.
"We should all be concerned as well with the direction of policy on Afghanistan. For quite a while, the cause of our military in that country went pretty much unquestioned, even on the left. The effort was routinely praised by way of contrast to Iraq, which many wrote off as a failure until the surge proved them wrong. Now suddenly – and despite our success in Iraq – we’re hearing a drumbeat of defeatism over Afghanistan. These criticisms carry the same air of hopelessness, they offer the same short-sighted arguments for walking away, and they should be summarily rejected for the same reasons of national security.
ReplyDeleteHaving announced his Afghanistan strategy last March, President Obama now seems afraid to make a decision, and unable to provide his commander on the ground with the troops he needs to complete his mission."
And one last repost from the prior thread:
ReplyDeleteI also heard that new unemployment claims went up another 531,000 this past week - hey Bernacke, sure glad to hear that we've hit bottom (talk about being overpaid, that goes for Congress and the POTUS for sure, but since they won't change THEIR compensation, let 'em drop Bernacke's pay!).
And again I say, whatever the hell health care bill gets passed is going to be horrible for the US because a) all the polls now show a majority of Voters DON'T WANT HEALTH CARE REFORM and b) Congress refuses to have itself and all other Federal Employess having to hew to whatever Health care reform gets passed - thus once again the "Elites" say "not good eough for me, but good enough for thee" to their own employers, US!
On idiot Grayson taking a swipe at Fox news--I'll bet that is what Obama wanted. Light the firs and let your idiot walk-step liberals fight the war for you.

Obama's military problem is getting worse
ReplyDelete"President Obama is presiding over a slow-motion civil-military crash occasioned by his meandering Afghanistan strategy review. The crash has not yet happened and is avoidable, but it also foreseeable. Of concern, the latest reports out of the White House suggest that Obama's team is not yet fully aware of the dangers. If it happens, it will be a problem entirely of Obama's own making and it could have a lasting impact on the way his administration unfolds."

Kosh: Absolutely. Obama is looking for a way out of this mess. He will try to pull a half measure compromise, then back out of it. That is ever his way. Afghanistan is screwed.
OLT: Sand in my Fluffernutter ...sounds terribly painful!
Declare victory and then leave!
ReplyDeleteIt's Obama's best bet
I thought a silicone valley was cleavage between to fake ones.
ReplyDeleteHeh, that works.
I've always wondered: What's the difference between a "luncheon", and just plain "lunch"?
ReplyDelete(Funny word, when you think about it: "lunch")
OR: I hated the C7, the Canadian version of the M16, when it was introduced here for the military use. All of us old school soldiers hated the way it felt, and how flimsy some aspects of it were. "Field" stripping it was a nightmare. Especially the rules for losing even one piece of your weapon, a military chargeable offence. Needless to say the C7 was rarely cleaned in the field due to the small parts. We were also issued plastic magazines that caused all sorts of feed jams, and lips that would break in cold weather. I remember first firing it and hearing the butt spring "twang". Now that being said, being able to carry about 50% more ammunition was a bonus. Each troop firing an automatic weapon as well was a bonus, although we were told not to. The lighter weight was good as well. Now the "Knife, utility" or bayonet needed to be reworked hard core. Cheap steel, lousy clip on to the bayonet lug. Well you can see where a lot of us missed the FN C1-A1...

ReplyDeleteMoody's issues warning that United States of America's AAA sovereign credit rating could be in peril if it does not reduce its deficit in the next 3-4 years.

Losing our AAA rating would be... ah... very, very bad.

Fear Not OR, Obama will appoint a Sovereign Credit Rating Czar to fix that little problem. Or, he can always declare "war" on Moody's to persuade them to reconsider?
PaladinPhil, to give *some* respect to the M-16, it sounds like that C7 was based on the original, rather screwed-up M-16 design. They *have* gotten a lot better, or so I'm told. (And M-16/M4 clone manufacturers have been doing some pretty interesting stuff with the design, e.g. Patriot Ordnance Factory, who have an M4 clone that requires virtually no cleaning or lubrication).
ReplyDeleteOr, he can always declare "war" on Moody's to persuade them to reconsider?
ReplyDelete"It's not a *real* credit rating agency..."
Moodys is not a "real" credit-reporting agency. We at the WH will not respond to this right-wing craziness.

Damn, OR. I bow to your speedy brain and fingers.
ReplyDeleteCINC Obama.....I don't feel so good about that fact right now, do any of you?
ReplyDeleteObama's military problem is getting worse
Spenser, my speedy brain resembles a boxing glove printed with the star-spangled banner, in fact.
ReplyDeleteMine looks like a curtain rod dipped in chocolate..

Holy crap. The Boston paper I read earlier had it wrong. The half-assed terrorist was teaching in Worcester, where I've lived most of my life. Wow. I know exactly where the mosque is. I used to work across the street from it and I played in a night softball league a couple blocks over. I can't believe this guy came outta that place. My... ahem..."less than sensitive" friends often had less-than-pleasant things to say about the place. I guess they were right, at least in part.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Spenser, my rapier wit is dull and rusty, more suited for butter spreading than slicing and dicing an intellectual opponent. But, butter is tasty, so that's a plus.
ReplyDeleteOR: I think the C7 was based on the A2 design. The difference of field strip from the FN to M16 was huge. The FN had about 10 parts the smallest being a little larger then the first joint of a grown males thumb. The M16 field strip had a cotter pin that was smaller then a thumb tack. We were trained to field strip and assemble FN's in the dark. There was no way in hell you could do the same thing with a M16.
ReplyDeleteDD: A well buttered up opponent will never realize what's happening until his ass hits the grill. :)

ReplyDeleteThat, indeed, is a very, very good thing.
And there's of course no rule that says that a "modern firearm" has to have lots and lots of tiny little parts. I give you: The Glock. Both thoroughly modern, and thoroughly, elegantly simple.
hey down there, new post up here

If you cannot dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your bullsh*t!
Desert Dog, that's a very interesting (and troubling) article. And no one can say that "Foreign Policy" is a right-wing publication.
ReplyDeletehey turn, we just managed to turn THIS one into a gun thread, so hold your fire
