A BILL
To provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans
and reduce the growth in health care spending, and
for other purposes.
It's only 1990 page of mind boggling bureaucrateze.
(B) CONFORMING AMENDMENT.—The second sentence of section 1919(h)(2)(A)(ii) of the 19
Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 20
1396r(h)(2)(A)(ii)) is amended by inserting before the period at the end the following: ‘‘, and some portion of such funds may be used to support activities that benefit residents, including assistance to support and protect residents of afacility that closes (voluntarily or involuntarily) or is decertified (including offsetting costs of relocating residents to home and community based settings or another facility), projects that support resident and family councils and other consumer involvement in assuring quality care in facilities, and facility improvement initiatives approved by the Secretary (including joint training of facility staff and surveyors, providing technical assistance to facilities under quality assurance programs, the appointment of temporary management, and other activities approved by the Secretary)’’.
What Budget Gimmicks are Liberals Using to Pass Their Agenda?
The “doc fix” bill, was part of a sneaky liberal strategy to pass President Barack Obama’s $1 trillion-plus health care overhaul by transferring a quarter of its cost into a separate, and completely unpaid for, bill. The White House thought that if it bought off all of the business interests involved, opposition to the plan would whither. In one sense, the plan worked—Washington lobbyists for drug companies, insurance giants and hospitals have all spent millions of dollars for lobbying and television ads in support of Obamacare.
Can't Achieve Public Option Without Deception
But regardless of how much lipstick they put on this pig, it still is a government takeover of the health care system that would all but eliminate private insurance and force millions of Americans into a government-run system. Apparently the House leadership has decided that if at first you can't get the votes by being honest about your true intentions, lie, lie, again.
ObamaCare's Scary October Surprise
Stung by a rising tide of resistance and a closing window of opportunity, House Democrats have unleashed a new version of ObamaCare, weighing in at 1,990 pages and with a $1 trillion price tag. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promises to ram it through quickly, exhibiting a disdain for her countrymen that makes Marie Antoinette look like a populist.
The Democrats are going for broke, which means we'll all be broke if this is not stopped. The "Affordable Health Care for America Act" (HR 3962) is so comprehensive that it even micromanages restaurant menus and vending machines. That's a clear signal that this is not about health care. It's about whether the people of the United States will allow power-mad Washington politicians to plunge us into the kind of top-down socialism that is strangling Western Europe and has devastated economies and destroyed freedom wherever it is imposed.
President Obama promised "transparency" and that any bill would be written in public. That was a lie. This monstrosity was hatched behind closed doors. He promised that it would not "add a dime to the federal deficit," which he has already tripled since taking office. It was another lie. No one can honestly believe that a gargantuan takeover of the nation's $2.5 trillion health care industry will save taxpayers money. No government program results in savings. They grow exponentially, create dependent constituencies that lobby for yet more tax dollars, and empower bureaucrats for whom mission failure ensures more staff, more money and more power. There is simply no governing restraint such as a profit motive or anxious stockholders. The voters? Surely you jest. They are far, far away and kept in check by a compliant leftist media. At least, so far.
Social Engineering in the Guise of Health Care Reform
A few months ago we were surprised to get a number of phone calls from the media asking about the original health care bill, H.R. 3200, containing "home visitation programs for families with young children and families expecting children."
You Americans are so screwed if this bill gets signed into law. Hope it can be canceled later on. :p
ReplyDeleteYay! First and my own Avatar no less!
ReplyDeletewell ok, Second!
ReplyDeleteHouse Speaker Nancy Pelosi promises to ram it through quickly, exhibiting a disdain for her countrymen that makes Marie Antoinette look like a populist.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY. (1990 pages?!) Something to laugh at.
Well I was half awake and eating brekkie and having my first cuppa coffee when I was listening to F&F and they had the Master Karl Rove on. Karl said that if congresspeople took off 8 hours a day starting yesterday through to Monday morning (to do the necessities, as Karl put it) and put in 16 hours a day reading this monstrously long bill, this his how fast they'd have to read it to get it all read before it comes to the floor on Monday - then he sped read through one page of pure lawyerese gibberish!
ReplyDeleteHe doubts that the House and Senate will be able to get a bill to Obama to sign before December, if then.
reason: too many Big Dogs in the Democratic Tent that have to be satisfied, starting with the Unions!
Hey PaladinPhil, Happy Halloween to you (unless you Canadians celebrate Halloween on the wrong damn day like with everyother holiday!)!!!
ReplyDeleteNOTHING that any Congress passes and is signed into law by a POTUS can't be undone as a matter of law. As a practical matter, being in love with their own words, it would take a herculean effort for a GOP DOMINATED Congress to repeal this bloated fish. Fortunately we should pick up enough seats in 2010 to stop the hemmoraging and enough more seats and the POTUS in 2012 to undo all of this crap.
Hey Real, we celebrate most holidays on the proper days. Thanksgiving up here is earlier because it gets cold earlier. :)
ReplyDeleteHey PaladinPhil - what, do y'all have Thanksgiving dinner outside?!? And let's not EVEN bring up "boxing day" ok?!
ReplyDelete:)
Hey {littleoldlady} are you still out here?
ReplyDeleterealwest,
ReplyDeleteYou expect me to post and answer an extensive, complicated email at the same time when it's raining?!
;-)
No, {littloldlady} I don't - I remember how hard it is to drive and type at the same time, especially in the rain!
ReplyDelete;>)
But I was wondering if y'all were taking a nap or not - I just might go ahead and nap NOW.
Heh, got the wording for my press pass for tonight. :)
ReplyDeleteThis pass allows the bearer to get into places he shouldn't be, to be obnoxious about it, take pictures that probably shouldn't be published, and to drink whatever he wants.
What Press Pass for what event tonight, P2?
ReplyDeleteFor my costume Realwest. :)
ReplyDeleteHold on a bit, creating it through a Flickr program.
Hello?! Knock, knock - This here mic still on?
ReplyDeleteAnyone out there?
Morning all. Just saw the Drudge Report story on Barry's visitors. Bill Ayers has been to the White House twice already. Obama must be "writing" another book.
ReplyDelete"Just some guy from the neighborhood" is now proven to be 100% bullshit. Wonder when the MSM will call Barry on that particular lie?
Here's the link...

And here it is. Over the top?
ReplyDeleteFrom blowing up the Pentagon to White House guest......
ReplyDelete*SPIT*
Good morning Lincolntf - the reason the MSM hasn't called him on it is because it's a different William Ayers.
ReplyDeleteSaw a story on it at Ace last evening and they had it figured out - with a "confession" by THE William Ayers who did visit the WH. Take a look at Ace - link on sideboard - and the update thereto.
Happy Halloweeen!

ReplyDeleteA different Bill Ayers? Good to know. Thanks, I'm glad I posted here first and learned that.
Off to Ace to read the story.
Good morning JCM!! And as I noted above, it's a different William Ayers - but y'all can still spit, cause it appears that George Soros has visted the WH on several occasions, as Ace notes, to check up on his investment!
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween my friend!
AH, AND HEY Y'ALL - DON'T FORGET TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK TONIGHT BY 2:00AM (actually that's tomorrow morning!) unless y'all are in Arizona or Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteAnd from Rasmussen today:
ReplyDelete"Saturday, October 31, 2009
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 29% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-nine percent (39%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -10. The Approval Index has been in negative double digits for 14 of the last 16 days (see trends).
Election Day is Tuesday and Republicans are likely to win back the Governor’s mansion in Virginia. The race in New Jersey is too close to call. Check out our review of last week’s key polls to see “What They Told Us.”
As players prepare for game three of the World Series, most baseball fans say they’d like to see more use of instant replay in the sport.
Fifty-two percent (52%) of Americans say that Halloween is not just for kids. On this spooky Saturday, 23% say they believe in ghosts."

An extremely modest man was in the hospital for a series of tests, the last of which had left his bodily systems extremely upset.
ReplyDeleteUpon making several false alarm trips to the bathroom, he decided the latest episode was another and stayed put. He suddenly filled his bed with diarrhea and was embarrassed beyond his ability to remain rational.
In a complete loss of composure he jumped out of bed, gathered up the bed sheets, and threw them out the hospital window.
A drunk was walking by the hospital when the sheets landed on him. He started yelling, cursing, and swinging his arms violently trying to get the unknown things off, and ended up with the soiled sheets in a tangled pile at his feet.
As the drunk stood there, unsteady on his feet, staring down at the sheets, a hospital security guard, (barely containing his (laughter), and who had watched the whole incident, walked up and asked, "What the heck is going on here?"
The drunk, still staring down replied: "I think I just beat the crap out of a ghost."
Happy Halloween C2er's. Have fun and be safe.
Hey there Erik The Red - thank you for the funny story and for the Halloween wishes - Happy and safe Halloween to you too!
ReplyDeleteMe, I'm gonna celebrate by taking a nap!
Maybe right now!
Different Ayers huh?
ReplyDeleteSoros paid for his visits......
Good morning Erik. Thanks for the joke.
ReplyDeleteLater Realwest. May see you around later.
I just looked at the log of visitors. As usual with Government documents, it is rife with blank spaces and is notable for what it conceals rather than what it divulges.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm reading it correctly, it looks like George Soros gets a 24 hour turnaround on his requests for Barry's time. Most people seemed to have a matter of days/weeks between their "appointment made" date and the actual visit. Soros got his in hours.
Well all y'all - the weather and a lack of sleep last night are combining to make me - MAKE ME I SAY! - take a nap!
ReplyDelete:)
Hope you all have a great day and that I get the chance to see you all down the road!
Wow. Scozzafava is dropping out of the race in the NY 23rd? Just read it on Ace.

Former basketball star Michael Jordan's inclusion in the recently published White House visitors list is a wonderful window into Obama’s values and personality. One expects to see Sen. Kennedy, of blessed memory, Jesse Jackson, and America's labor leaders on the list of welcome visitors to a Democratic White House.
ReplyDeleteBut one name did stick out from the list. Remember this name: The Hon. Harold Haley. Judge Haley was kidnapped and murdered in 1970; the weapon used to kill the judge was purchased by a recent visitor to the White House, Lenin Peace Prize winner, presidential candidate of the Communist Party of the United States of America, "activist," professor, supporter of Jim Jones People's Temple and all around American lady of letters, Angela Davis. Yes, THAT Angela Davis. The fact the US Communist Party was subsidized by an enemy nation throughout its entire existence and Davis’ leadership in the organization was nothing short of treasonous to this country is apparently no reason to exclude her from entering the people's house as a welcome guest of our President! Oddly enough, the man the president claimed he barely knew, Bill Ayers, was also on the list. Judge Hoyer was not invited because he was dead.
One of the perks of being president is that you can have anyone and everyone come visit. Anyone would consider it an honor and a privilege to be invited to just visit the White House. But Davis’ visit speaks worlds of this president and his White House. He has time to meet with the likes of Ms. Davis, play gold and shoot hopps with Jordan but he has no time to meet with the David Petraeus, Ray Odiniero or Stanley McChrystal so our soldiers don't suffer any “teachable moments” on the battlefield.
Showing the willpower to win the fight is as important as the fight itself. Your soldiers need to know that they are not sacrificing themselves in a fruitless effort and our enemies, the people we sure as hell don't want to win, must see a leadership committed to complete victory.
Obama is dithering when he should be sending in troops. The time has come to deliver a crushing overwhelming military blow to the Taliban (and when I say Taliban, I'm in Afghanistan Taliban and Pakistani Taliban).hat
The idea that the likes of Angela Davis is whispering words of defeat into the ears of the sitting President of the United States of America fills me with revulsion and contempt for Obama. I challenge anyone to present me with any action in her entire adult life that wasn't destructive to the well-being of this nation or utterly defeatist in its outlook; Davis was an enemy of freedom who proudly declined to support ANY prisoner of conscience in the Soviet bloc.
Instead the president consults away, unable to make a clear decision, apparently hoping the polls will change or he is unable to find advisors able to put clear strategic choices before him. I have it on good authority that Colin Powell, John McCain and Norman Schwartzkopf all own working telephones and have some military experience; all of these men and many other talented people who could craft a winning plan for the AFPAK front would be delighted to come to the White House and give the President sound advice.
It is astonishing that our president is more focused on his golf game and the political insights of the deep strategist Michael Moore (who has also been a frequent visitor to the White House) than he is on dealing with his foremost responsibility as Commander-in Chief.
I would rather see Obama win a second term because he wised up and faced the war in South Asia than see our country suffer military defeat. But Obama is more comfortable with the morally indefensible Davis than he is with heroes who have defended this nation and are willing to lay their life lives providing for the common defense.
President Obama, people like me will remind the voters you like criminals and terrorists more than our troops. Go argue with your guest list.

ReplyDeleteHEAR! HEAR! HEAR!
When I saw Davis name on the list, my fee almost hit the screen.
ReplyDeleteThis will be BIG news.
Our President has been remarkably consistent with his personal associations.

ReplyDeleteGreat post.
As for Angela Davis being "BIG news", I kinda doubt it. Nobody but bloggers and a few beltway types will even mention her past. We've seen this kind of pro-Obama whitewashing for a couple years now. It ain't gonna change.
Ayatollah Ghilmeini said
ReplyDeleteWell said.
One of the biggest problems we have now is that a disturbingly large proportion of the electorate do not remember the Soviet threat and have been convinced that it wasn't a threat. That or they know nothing.
I deal with 18-23 year-olds on a daily basis. The problem is not that they have been taught left-wing agit-prop. My brainless cat is smart enough to see through that act. No, the real problem is that they know nothing. Angela Davis? Who's that? Some old chick. Communists? Those were Russians or something, right? And they're all gone now so who cares. For them the Cold War is as distant as WWI was to us boomer types; WWII is as distant as the Spanish American War.
What's worse is that they don't see any reason to know anything. The thing I hear more frequently than anything else is that "everything is biased," usually said with a dismissive shrug. Their parents are biased, the teachers are biased, the books are biased, the news is biased; consequently no one is to be trusted because everyone's message is suspect. And since every message is suspect, none are worth believing.
Some of them bought into the Obama hype, but even then, many of them did for largely cynical reasons. And as his plans fail or are revealed to be scams, they just shrug and say, "yep, that's the way things are." There is no "Camelot" mentality here, like the MSM would like us to think.
More and more I'm coming to the conclusion that Obama won not in spite of his cynicism, but because he is the embodiement of cynicism. He's a liar; so what? Who isn't?
Nasty things lie down that path.
As for the healthcare bill, the signs of desparation are getting clearer. The White House is totally out of touch with reality, and the media is, in fact, getting testy. It's not just Fox now that has been slapped -- striking out at the AP and even at CNN shows that this is not a mater of Left and Right; it's a matter of obedience. And the news ferrets are getting annoyed at being told what to think. And as scandals bloom in congress, as their shark-senses smell the blood in the water, the brain stem will take over. At that point, all bets are off.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I'm getting the impression that NO ONE in the media takes the WeeWon seriously any more. If they ever did.
Meanwhile, this next little cluster of elections is crucial; if the winds seem to be blowing out towards right field, we should expect the batters to shift their stance.
Hmmmm. Too many mixed metaphors in that last post.
ReplyDeleteCrap, I'm here all alone, aren't I?

By the way for those who may have relgious objections to Halloween: today is national American Candy Testing Day. America's children are invited to test our candy to make sure it is sweet. To ensure anonymity, it is best to go candy testing in disguise.
ReplyDeleteThere is no charge for this suggestion.
Ayatollah Ghilmeini said... today is national American Candy Testing Day.To ensure anonymity, it is best to go candy testing in disguise.
ReplyDeleteLOL. What religion is against Halloween?
That Obama has been immersed in Red politics since birth, and exclusively sought out Red mentors, and associates was met with a giant yawn.
ReplyDeleteNothing has changed.
Obama is the midst of a counter-revolution, over turn the everything that this country was founded on.
When all this pointed out, the messenger is called racist.
Halloween has a long history; according to Carlo Ginzburg it is part of a tradition found in many parts of Europe where the souls of the unquiet dead would make assaults on the community; the souls needed to be propitiated so that they would return to their proper place. In Medieval tradition these ghosts were mainly souls in purgatory; what they were asking was for the living to make appropriate penances and give alms. Their visitations were a warning, as well as a plea to be remembered through acts of charity.
ReplyDeleteIn primitive European custom, it was common to view the souls of the dead as taking on animal forms; hence in ritualized processions, the participants would often wear animal masks in their representation of the souls of the dead.
Halloween is a ritualized version of this; originally children were not going out for candy; they were collecting alms.
On this Ginzburg writes: {p. 156) “In the hordes of masked children and adolescents who scurried through the villages there has been recognized a representation of the cohorts of the dead ... the apparently playful ritual of the begging rounds would seem to have induced ambivalent feelings – fear, guilt, the wish to obtain favours through penance – connected with the ambivalent image of the dead”
[Ginzburg, Ecstacies: Decoding the Witches' Sabbath (Chicago, 1991)]
JCM -- of course the messenger is a racist.
ReplyDeleteCommies have one strategy: demonize the opponent. In our society calling people "bourgeois" doesn't work. Calling them "sexist" doesn't work very well any more either; "homophobe" has had some success, but is limited in its application. "Racist" is the most effective term of derision.
Name-calling is what you do when you can't argue your position through resort to logic. Intimidation is all they have, which is why they seek political office.
BREAKING: Scozzafava suspends NY 23 campaign
ReplyDeleteRepublican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election, a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her two opponents -- Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens.
The decision to suspend her campaign is a boost for Hoffman, who already had the support of 50 percent of GOP voters, according to a newly-released Siena poll, and is now well-positioned to win over the 25 percent of Republicans who had been sticking with Scozzafava.
But, but, Hoffman's a Creationist Teabagger!
/ruh roh, someone's pet RINO just died
ETR, don't ask. I never participated in Hallowe'en growing up. That's why I take as many opportunities as an adult to dress up in funky costumes and make and idiot of myself. :)
ReplyDeleteCase in point. I am wearing the mohawk. :)
Kilian! How dare you disparage RINOs!!
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows that what this country wants are "centrists" as defined by the left.
(Leftist definition of a "centrist": A politician who consistenly puts the ball just to the right of the left foul pole.)
I went to a fraternity-sponsored Halloween party last night. A few interesting costumes -- the most inventive was a girl dressed in pink from head to toe with a shoe on top of her head -- she was a piece of bubble gum. There was also a couple who came as dead Anthony and dead Cleopatra and did a great job with their costumes.
ReplyDeleteA few Lady GaGa costumes, most of which, were my daughter wearing them, I had not let her out of the house.
Most kids were pretty well behaved -- they all felt sort of dorky in their costumes.
Later everyone. Full and busy day today. Two College games to watch and someone told me that an important baseball game is on tonight. In between all of that we have a Halloween party and Trick n' Treating to do. Of course there will be plenty of Adult beverages consumed. In fact I am going to crack my first one in a few.
ReplyDeleteHave fun and be safe.
See ya EtR. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteSources: Abdullah to pull out of Afghan runoff
ReplyDeleteAfghan presidential challenger Abdullah Abdullah plans to boycott next week's runoff against incumbent Hamid Karzai following a breakdown in talks on how to fix the country's electoral crisis, two people familiar with the discussions said.
A boycott would severely undermine a vote intended to affirm the Afghan government's credibility. However, an Abdullah spokesman said no final decision had been made on the candidate's pullout, and that Abdullah will announce his decision Sunday morning. It was possible that word of the boycott was a negotiating tactic by the Abdullah camp.
But Obama will insist that they hold the election anyway.
/you know, so more Afghans can get killed for voting
Later Erik, have a fun day and night.
ReplyDelete/should get my ass in gear as well.
PP -- what sort of gear does your ass need to be in?
ReplyDeleteKilian -- in his attitude towards Honduras, the WeeWon has shown how he feels about things like "democracy."
ReplyDeleteLike his predecessor Jimmy Carter, he covets the sort of power left-wing dictators possess. He's such a good man -- why shouldn't he have absolute irresitable power?
Lucius: First gear would be a start. Should get up to at least second for the day. :)
ReplyDeleteShould get up to at least second for the day. :)
ReplyDeleteHeh.
I feel like I'm stuck in reverse this morning.
Stayed up way too late last night.
How is everyone this AM, besides the kulakization in process.
Boys are playing hide and seek....
ReplyDeleteBoy1: Let's play hide and seek!
Boy2: Okay!
Boy1: You hide.
Boy2: You count to 51!

Boy1: Okay!
Boy2: I'm hiding!
Boy1: Okay, I'm putting my head down and counting!
Boy2: Count to 51!
Boy1: 51! ready or not here I come!
51 -- makes sense to me.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter will run around counting and start looking before she's done.
Malik Shabazz is on the list, too.
ReplyDeleteNot THE Malik Shabazz, according to the White House. A different one. (Jake Tapper says there are 59 on whitepages.com, so it's not as uncommon a name as you might think - still seems hinky to me, though, I guess because I don't trust this bunch as far as I could throw them.)
And good morning, C2. (I guess I'll go to the other thread.)
