Funny you mention bread making. One of the things on the agenda. I use bread dough for pizza as well, which is what I plan on making if I have a chance. Also baked beans, and maybe some cinnamon rolls. :)

ReplyDeleteI love the GooD Eats show and Alton Brown. I have a set of his books and one of them has a lot of tutorials on bread making. i made a couple of loaves last weekend, but had some trouble. Dough has honey in it and it was rainy out so ended up adding extra flour and then the dang thing didn't rise. Had to add more yeast. Came out okay, but not what I expected.
ReplyDeleteGetting dough to rise is a constant problem with me as well VT. Usually do to the fact that my basement apartment is a little cool for the dough. I usually will have the oven on in the kitchen to boost the ambient temperature. Usually that works. I will also add an extra teaspoon or 1/2 of one to my mixture for the extra rise.

UFO TOFU: It's a used Nikon D200 I am getting from a friend who upgraded to a Nikon D3. Getting a battery pack and lens with it as well. I will need to get a 50mm lens shortly as well and then start looking for others. Getting it for a good price too. $600 total for what he's giving me.

My understanding of the net nuetrality. Concept is EVERYBODY should have hi-speed internet access. Once that happens some people believe that the argument will be the content that is accessable to the people. Also, there is a bill proposed that says this:

So, once the FCC manages to make the world "fair" (an admirable goal), the power to make the world unfair has by default been ceded to them.

There are a lot of good point and shoots out there that are very simplistic to use without getting complicated. Canon and Sony are two good manufacturers. The only problem with Sony is that you need there propriety memory stick. I would go with Canon or any other camera that takes generic ones like SD or Compact Flash cards. If you do, make sure that you get a high speed card.
On shutting down Internet traffic, the FedGov can already take a large portion of the 'net down if it needs to, and given the Chinese predilection for cyber-warfare in times of peace it only makes sense.

I think that this whole net neutrality bill is anything but. I believe that the communication companies are doing a good enough job as it is. The only people that are really suffering with not getting great high speed internet access are people that are really out in the sticks, or as an old acquaintance of mine once said, "People in the Land Beyond Cable". It's just not economically feasible to run that much high speed line in some rural settings.

This would be a different group from those who were over-extended and lost their sub-prime homes quickly due to no safety net. Plus, due to the ages (50+) of many of the unemployed, are many of their children now in college having to take out even more student loans due to that source having dried up?

(a) We have a Democratically controlled Congress that by and large has supported, since 2004, the Kerry-Obama-Hillary Clinton narrative of a "good" war in Afghanistan, supposedly shamefully neglected by George Bush's neo-con adventure in Iraq, but absolutely vital to the security of the United States, and one entirely winnable — if only we allot sufficient resources.
(b) We have a proven command in Generals McChrystal and Petraeus and their circle of subordinates, who crafted a winning counterinsurgency strategy in Iraq that defeated the terrorists, ensured stability for the fragile constitutional government, and took a tremendous toll on the human and material resources of al-Qaeda, as well as the reputation of radical Islam among the Middle East street.

(d) The Islamic world is much less in thrall (polls tell us that) to bin Laden and his advocacy of suicide bombing and terrorism than it was five years ago; Pakistan in general, the victim of numerous terrorist attacks, is far more willing to take concerted action that aids our cause than at any time in the last eight years. And we have a president who by his own admission resonates abroad in a way not true of the past, and will be given a level of international support not usually accorded to American efforts in the Muslim world.
(e) The president has a domestic opposition — entirely unlike that of George Bush's — that is eager to support President Obama to fulfill his promise to win Afghanistan by devoting more resources to the effort.
(f) We have a media mesmerized by Obama, that will withhold criticism of him in Afghanistan in a way that was simply not true of the Bush effort in Iraq, that, nonetheless, proved successful.
(g) We have a split public, but one far more amenable to a surge in Afghanistan than was true in late 2006 of the proposed surge in Iraq.
(h) We should be bolstered by our success in Iraq, and the enemy demoralized by its failure; rather than vice versa.
Given the above, and given that George Bush made a far more difficult choice that saved Iraq, it is hard to figure out why Obama can not make a simple decision to send troops requested by commanders on the ground."

ReplyDeleteI agree with all of that. Commercial real estate foreclosures are going to jump, look at all the empty store parking lots. Folks are exhausting savings. College students are getting hammered with fewer loans available plus colleges are jacking up tuition to make up for dropping state funding/aid.
Folks, we are in for a very tough few years more. Obamanomics are a total failure, even though MSM will not report that. They love the fact that Obama has, in my opinion, damaged this country severely with his deficit spending, tax plans, and his foreign policy of appeasement and apology. The left/MSM hates this country and wants to see it damaged, They have their wish now.

ReplyDeleteIt's the first step to regulating what is said on the net. You watch, blog posters will end up having to register with some Czar of the net and opinions will have to be cleared. Oh they will bury that in a bunch of policy mumbo-jumbo, but the intent in my mind is to eliminate any opinion they disagree with.
FYI, I had a job interview yesterday, but the interview committee seemed all hung up on the fact that I would have a drive of an hour each way to the job. They had no concerns about my qualifications, just the distance of my commute to the job. Sounded to me like they had an internal candidate they were protecting. I doubt that I will hear back positively from them. Oh well, that's the way it goes, I'll find something else.
ReplyDeleteAlso, just got a phone call from my eldest daughter who is also a victim of Obamanomics and who got layed off a month ago. She has a promising job interview a week from today in her chosen field.
With that, I'm going to go work out. I've started a rigorous work out regime now that I am pretty much out of full time work for the time being and will keep it up till I find another good position. As I told the Mrs. I will either find another good job or I will get into tip top shape. weight lifting to build up muscle and indoor biking to drop flab.
Lost 15 pounds already. As old geezers go (51) I'm getting into pretty good shape.
