Jim Clyburn (D-NC) tries to whip 218 votes out of the Democratic caucus, Stupak claims to control 40 of those votes, thanks to the federal funding of abortions in the House plan. Stupak now threatens to collaborate with Republicans on a procedural motion that will kill ObamaCare for the session unless Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Nancy Pelosi allow an amendment to block all federal funding for abortions:
Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg was no fan of the $58 billion federal rescue of General Motors Co., saying he worried taxpayer money would be wasted and the restructuring process would be vulnerable to "political pressure." Now the lawmaker says it's his "patriotic duty" to wade into GM's affairs.
Along with Montana's two Democratic senators, the Republican congressman is battling to get GM to reinstate a contract with a Montana palladium mine nullified in bankruptcy court. "The simple fact is, when GM took federal dollars, they lost some of their autonomy," Mr. Rehberg says.
Yeah, well...I predict that won't be the only one.
I think one of our major problems as a country is we do not teach economics to *everyone*. I took a basic econ course after I graduated college (art and liberal arts degree) and it was a WHOA! moment. "So THAT'S how things work?!"
If more people knew basic economics (and of course, free market concepts) neither Bush nor Obama would have gotten away with what they did.
Recall that news from a few days ago about the young officer in Afghanistan who resigned because he had lost faith in the US mission, and got a big write up in the WaPo...
It's seems there was a lot less to this fellow than the WaPo reported... namely, lower rank, less experience, just one in a thousand similar Americans serving in Afghanistan. Which leads one to ask, why was his opinion significant enough to print his letter in the WaPo? Could the fact that his opinion more or less endorsed the Biden plan have something to do with it?

I've seen power outages for 2 to 3 days at a crack, so I'd go with the genenrator anyway.
Also, I replace my sump pump about every 3 to 4 years anyway (as soon as it goes out of warantee). It only costs a few hundred dollars to do so and I consider it really cheap insurance to make sure I don't get a flooded basement.

Is a 3300 watt (gas powered) generator for $300 a good deal. Is that a decent sized generator?
That's not a bad price for the generator. The size depends on what you want it to do. If you are looking for one to power your home (basic items) it's a little small. During the Ice storm last year here my 5500 watt powered my whole house, wired straight into the panel. I now have a 8500 watt inline generator that starts on it's on when power is lost using LP gas.

ReplyDeleteI've seen power outages for 2 to 3 days at a crack, so I'd go with the genenrator anyway.
Also, I replace my sump pump about every 3 to 4 years anyway (as soon as it goes out of warantee). It only costs a few hundred dollars to do so and I consider it really cheap insurance to make sure I don't get a flooded basement.
Off to the salt mine...

(PG 57.89, +0.66, +1.15%) said Thursday its fiscal first-quarter earnings slipped 1% to $3.31 billion, or $1.06 a share, from $3.35 billion, or $1.03 a share, in the year-ago period. The number of shares outstanding in the quarter fell to 3.1 billion from 3.2 billion last year. Earnings from continuing operations in the latest period were 97 cents a share. Analysts polled FactSet Research were looking for earnings of 95 cents a share, on average. Revenue fell 6% to $19.8 billion, while organic sales edged up 2%. Wall Street expected sales of $19.8 billion. Shares of Procter & Gamble rose less than 1% premarket to $57.57."
That's not a good thing.

That's not a bad price for the generator. The size depends on what you want it to do. If you are looking for one to power your home (basic items) it's a little small. During the Ice storm last year here my 5500 watt powered my whole house, wired straight into the panel. I now have a 8500 watt inline generator that starts on it's on when power is lost using LP gas.
