    Nice.

Columbus Brewing makes a decent India Pale Ale, but I quit buying it after the local shop finally stop mis-pricing it at $3.05 for a six.

  35. BWB: I go for Ashkelon, one of the Israeli araks. Preferably the 100-proof, which tastes better than the 80. Phenix, which is not, alas, available in this country, is also good.

Erik: We were up against big, big money--and the summary judgment decision ran against us in one important area. We would have had to rely on some dicy proof (and an expert I don't entirely trust), and risk being hit for the other side's attorney's fees (big, big money) if we lost.

With all of this in mind, it was the wise, though not the satisfying, course to take a painful hit and move on.

  47. A cowboy from Texas attends a social function where Barack Obama is trying to gather more support for his Health Plan. Once he discovers the cowboy is from President Bush's home area, he starts to belittle him by talking in a southern drawl and single syllable words.

As he was doing that, he kept swatting at some flies that were buzzing around his head. The cowboy says, "Y'all havin' some problem with them circle flies?"

Obama stopped talking and said, "Well, yes, if that's what they're called, but I've never heard of circle flies."

"Well Sir," the cowboy replies, "circle flies hang around ranches. They're called circle flies because they're almost always found circling around the back end of a horse."

"Oh," Obama replies as he goes back to rambling. But, a moment later he stops and bluntly asks, "Wait a minute, are you calling me a horse's ass?"

"No, Sir," the cowboy replies, "I have too much respect for the citizens of this country to call their President a horse's ass."

"That's a good thing," Obama responds and begins rambling on once more.

After a long pause, the cowboy, in his best Texas drawl says, "Hard to fool them flies, though."

    The Jobs Search
7 Months After Stimulus 49 of 50 States Have Lost Jobs
America Now Over 6 Million Jobs Shy of Administration's Projections
    Wednesday, October 21, 2009

The table below compares the White House's February 2009 projection of the number of jobs that would be created by the 2009 stimulus law (through the end of 2010) with the actual change in state payroll employment through September 2009 (the latest figures available). According to the data, 49 States and the District of Columbia have lost jobs since stimulus was enacted. Only North Dakota has seen net job creation following the February 2009 stimulus. While President Obama claimed the result of his stimulus bill would be the creation of 3.5 million jobs, the Nation has already lost a total of 2.7 million – a difference of 6.2 million jobs. To see how stimulus has failed your state, see the table below.

Keep your antivirus software updated, and be careful what you open.
I've found for viruses in email, I'm my best defense. If something looks suspicious, I view the source (only Thunderbird and the no longer supported Outlook Express let you do this without opening the email first) and if there is anything that doesn't look right, I delete it.
It is also great for finding phishing attempts.
But it also takes a little technical ability.

PANAMA CITY, Oct 21 (Reuters) - A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean near Panama on Wednesday but authorities said they had no initial reports of damage.

"We are monitoring the situation. For now there is no damage," Arturo Alvarado De Icaza, the head of Panama's civil defense agency, told Reuters.

The epicenter of the quake was 111 miles (179 km) south of the city of David and at a depth of 6.2 miles (10 km), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Residents in the capital Panama City, about 200 miles (322 km) from David, said they did not feel any movement.

There was no immediate tsunami warning in the area.

A quake of magnitude 6 or above is considered strong and capable of causing severe damage in populated areas. (Reporting by Sean Mattson; Editing by John O'Callaghan)

I'm watching this fight as no disinterested observer. For years I was a rare commodity: a liberal commentator on Fox News. I enjoyed working with the bookers and producers at Fox's Washington bureau. But the place often felt like a foreign territory.

Has he not noticed Bob Beckel, Susan Estridge, Alan Colmes, Juan Williams, Geraldo Rivera, Ellis What's-His-Name, Neil Gabler (I could go on and on) hanging around the joint? It doesn't matter how many liberals there are around for these guys. It's simply never ENOUGH liberals for them. Until EVERYONE is a liberal, it's just not a fair fight as far as they're concerned.

  140. Seattle did a 20¢ bag tax.

    Talk about regressive.

Awhile back I looked at the energy cost of paper v. plastic. Plastic won that hands down. It's not a problem in landfills the greenies make it out to be. Plastic is worse when not properly disposed of.

As far as I can tell paper v. plastic really ends up being a wash....

Kill a tree, choke a seal, pick your poison.

  143. And remember, plastic (or paper) in a landfill is sequestering the carbon content. Tell that to the enviros!

  144. JCM, you can recycle those bags. The local grocery stores used to have bareels out front to collet them.. Iw ould save them and take them all at once. Know why they stopped? Nobody wants to recylce them. Same with other recyclables. It is not cost effective to use the material, so it is sitting there in huge piles.
