For those who haven't been made aware, the .com version of C2 is probably best described a sort of "blog mall". There will be, in the beginning, eight (possibly nine) distinct forums, all tied together by a single population.
From the beginning, it was our desire to create a place where our very valued and beloved active duty and veteran service members could congregate, and where those interested in military topics could find the go-to news. Maybe a place where military families could gather for mutual support and useful informaton.
Bare himself is a Gulf War Vet (USN), and as some of you know, my own father was a veteran of Iwo Jima. We really wanted to get this one right.
For a while, we struggled to find just the right name. Service rivalries complicated this a bit. (I lobbied for "Uncommon Valor", which was way too USMC-centric for Bare, who loves to tell Marine jokes and repeatedly points out to me that the Marines are actually part of the Department of the Navy ; )...and neither of us wanted anyone to feel anything less than appreciated and totally welcome.) But when we finally had it, we knew it: "Home of the Brave".
Now, if you're dreaming up a forum idea, one thing you have your eye on is finding a manager who knows the topic inside and out. We believe we've found just that person, and today we are delighted to announce he has accepted our invitation. C2ers, please welcome Render, author of The Last Stand blog and the new manager of "Home of the Brave", our C2 military forum.
Render ... perfect choice ...
ReplyDeleteAwwwww right! We got RENDER! w00t! :-)

ReplyDeleteExcellent.
I don't know if he'll be around to post on the thread, guys - I've got some email out to him but I haven't heard back, so he might be having a busy day.
ReplyDeleteWe're very happy he's onboard.
Good name and good choice. BTW, did anyone else have problems accessing blogger for about an hour? Just managed to get here now.
ReplyDeletePalPhil ... no but I just wrote this really really great post (lying) ... I used punctuation and everything (lying here again) ... and it went poof! ... dang ... said there was a conflict ...

ReplyDeleteBrazil fighter competition heats up as race enters final straight
When the commander of the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira - FAB), Lieutenant Brigadier Juniti Saito, originally laid out his programme milestones for the re-start of its F-X future fighter programme - now called F-X2 - most of the companies participating thought that it was an overly ambitious schedule that would end up slipping to the right.
However, according to one Dassault executive, "surprisingly, the programme has run almost entirely according to the timetable that Brig Saito laid out two years ago".
All the signs are that the announcement of the winner will take place as planned in October 2009. The three-way contest is now between the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, the Dassault Rafale and Saab's JAS 39 Gripen. The initial buy is for 36 aircraft but, with anticipated follow-ons needed to replace the majority of the FAB's fleet, the total programme numbers could be as high as 100-120 fighters.
Well, I was Army and I totally approve of using the Iwo Jima Memorial.
ReplyDeleteSon of the Black Dog, THANK YOU! And thank you for your service! We hope you'll give Render a shout now and then in the new place.

ReplyDeleteThe primary air refueling tanker is the KC-135. These aircraft are 50 years old. Our ability to project force around the world depends on these aircraft.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE 2-Northrop says US gave Boeing edge in tanker tussle
Northrop Grumman Corp (NOC.N) said the U.S. government had given rival Boeing Co (BA.N) a "fundamentally unfair" edge in the renewed battle for a potential $50 billion mid-air refueling fleet.
"Northrop Grumman continues to be greatly concerned that its pricing information from the previous tanker competition was provided by the government to its competitor, Boeing," Paul Meyer, the company's tanker program manager, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Raising a potential protest only days after the Air Force published draft bidding rules for a new contest, Meyer said access to comparable pricing data from Boeing had so far been denied to Northrop Grumman by the Pentagon.
It's absolutely criminal that we're still futzing around on this contract. Even if it's signed today, the tanker fleet will be nearing 60 years old by the time the planes are deployed.
Posted twice - don't know why.

The market snapped back a bit today in bargain hunting, but hold your breath. I think the market will turn down again soon, especially as the unemployment numbers will likely continue to worsen.

So how is that hope and change working out for you?

Agree 100%.
I heard a guy on the local radio this morning who said his son is over in Afghanistan right now. His son says that the terrorists are streaming in from Pakistan and we don;t have enough boots on the ground to stop it. He said the terrorists are picking our guys off like deer hunters on a stand in the woods.
Got to run,later.

ReplyDeleteBeverly Gossage, Research Fellow for Show-Me Institute and founder of HSA Benefits Consulting wondered which insurance companies rejected the most claims. She found her answer in the AMA’s own 2008 National Health Insurer Report Card. The chart below appears on page 5 of the 16-page report.
Of the eight insurers listed, Medicare is most likely to reject a claim, sending away 6.85% of requests. This is more than any private insurer and double that of the private insurers’ average!
Cindy Sheehan: “It’s been change in the wrong direction”
ReplyDeleteRut-roe: [...]said she is not disappointed by President Obama’s performance in office, for she never had any expectations for him in the first place.
“It’s been change in the wrong direction,” said the one-time youth minister at a Catholic church in Vacaville, California. “Many people thought that since George Bush is gone, all of our problems are gone, too. Well, he (Obama) is still sending troops to Afghanistan. He didn’t fulfill his promises in Iraq. We still have the military industrial complex and the ‘robber class’ on Wall Street that we’ve given permission to to send our children to be killed in wars.”
NOW WHAT?

It's humbling & sobering to be experiencing what our forefathers survived in the 1930s and 1940s, and fought to prevent from happening again: global meltdowns & America dissed by two-bit tin pot dictators, California becoming a dustbowl instead of an agricultural powerhouse...

ReplyDeleteWith Angela Merkel's re-election and more conservatives in German parliament, let us hope German troops will put down their beer mugs in NATO's mess tents, and pick up their weapons to fight the Taliban with us.
NATO's head Fogh Anders Rassmussen also wants to change NATO's rules of engagement in Afghanistan so various other countries can pick up their weapons and fight the Taliban too.
Let's get these NATO troops back in touch with their inner warriors, since our National Security Advisor Jim Jones has gone limp and left our US troops exposed.

The Wee One disses the Dali Lama in favor of the ChiComs.
ReplyDeletePresident Barack Obama will not meet the Dalai Lama during his five-day trip to the U.S. capital beginning on Monday, the first time in 18 years the exiled Tibetan leader has visited Washington without seeing the president.
Obama instead intends to wait until after his November summit with Chinese leader Hu Jintao before meeting the Dalai Lama, possibly sometime in December, officials said.
The decision to break precedent and delay any meeting was conveyed to the Dalai Lama last month when Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and State Department Undersecretary Maria Otero traveled to Dharamsala, India, to explain the administration's approach on Tibet.

William Lind is more then just a "writer." He can be found at antiwar dot com and Lew Rockwell's blog.

He's one of John Boyd's old "4GW" crew. He was against Operation Iraqi Freedom. He's got a real bug up his butt about "neo-cons" and we know what that's code for from the Rockwell people. He's got an even larger bug crawling out of his mouth about Israel.

Dez - Still going. Still the King of the Belt-Fed. Switched up kits a bit for a change of pace and a challenge. Dumped the twin belt-fed kit, replaced it with a Type 99/bayonet kit with bandolier. Not liking not being able to see to the right with sights up, not liking the lack of ammo. Do like the accuracy and rate of fire though. I'll switch this one to the DP-28 in a bit.
