In this week of kerfuffle about Limbaugh's alleged (and at least partially fabricated) anti-black racist remarks, it's interesting that at the moment, on NPR's spotlessly politically-correct "Studio 360", they're having a show about the "black accent". They feature Columbia U. linguist John McWhorter, who wrote the astonishingly frank "Losing the Race: Self-Sabotage in Black America".
And, mirabile dictu, they're actually pointing out that Obama changed his "accent" depending on his audience, and affected a "blackccent" for black audiences.
I hear ya. Saturday mornings are a lazy morning. Especially when it is pouring outside.
So, I finally debugged the avatar issue, and emailed Blogger/Google with my findings. Hopefully, since I sent them both a description of the issue AND a solution for it, they should be able to fix it quickly.
Uh. Avatars disappear after the fifth comment that is A. Not anonymous, and/or related to a GMail account. So, next time you post on this thread, it wont' be there unfortunately.
In the "delayLoad" javascript that Blogger is using, the script is looking for a element ID that is dynamically generated when the page is rendered, but the rendering of the page is assigning element IDs that are different than what the javascript is looking for, so it creates a "undefined" null error on the page, and so by default it ends up displaying a blank image.
Oleg Atbashian (from "The People's Cube"), has these observations on the socialist system he fled: "[T]he only justification for the forced redistribution of wealth is class envy — an emotion based on a subjective perception of other people’s wealth regardless of how it was earned. And the relative and subjective nature of wealth makes the case for its redistribution even flimsier.
Consider the fact that the Soviet apparatchiks, smugly driving their Volgas past the average Soviet pedestrians, themselves looked pathetic next to American middle-class families, with Chevrolets in the front and swimming pools in the back of their suburban houses.
The apparatchiks liked to be called “people’s servants.” Unlike their less equal “masters,” they were allowed to travel to the West. The striking material contrast must have caused many of them to entertain a criminal thought that, were they to discard their own system of government redistribution and give people the opportunity to earn real income without government obstruction, everyone’s living standard would quadruple — including their own.
But since in a free and competitive society they wouldn’t be the ones with the most power and privilege, the certainty of smaller unearned rewards outweighed for them the opportunity to earn greater rewards with honest efforts. So they continued to “serve” the people by keeping them down and staying on top."
Everyone one is "equal" in collectivist societies....equally miserable, equally poor, equally standing in line for food that is not there....
Human nature is stronger than misguided and deluded utopian fantasies....communism and socialism don't work because they are artificial and run contrary to what humans naturally want.
Good morning! I see Al Sharpton is threatening to sue Rush Limbaugh now, over an op/ed Rush wrote connecting him to the Tawana Brawley case and the Fashion Mart incident.
I guess this must be the first he ever heard of those things or something.
Mr. Breitbart claims victory, and in extravagant terms: "At every step of the way, we were correct. At every step of the way, the mainstream media took the lies of Acorn. At every step of the way, the mainstream media attempted to cover up for Acorn. . . . If they think that Acorn or the Democratic Party or the NEA or the Office of Public Engagement is the primary target, they couldn't be more wrong. It is the Democrat-media complex. It is the mainstream media. No jury would need more evidence at this point. The Clark Hoyts of the world should just put their pens down and retire right now and walk away. They lost."

That is, without a doubt, the most idiotic thing that Sharpton could do. So, I say...
Rush gets labeled and smeared, yet the actual racists come off looking like Saints. Why does ANYONE listen to Al Sharpton?
That POS has been down here rabble-rousing about Sheriff Joe. What does a fancy pants race baiter from NY have to do with illegal aliens in Phoenix? What the "F" does he know about the situation down here? Sharpton is an old fashioned race-baiter and race hustler....he is the true racist in this mix....not Rush and not Sheriff Arpaio. Pathetic

A soft answer can sometimes turn away wrath, but not always, and presidents have to be wary of showing timidity and weakness in the face of a bully. This is the expensive lesson the tinhorns of the world are teaching Barack Obama. So far he is not an honors student.
Say you're sorry, Rush - or the the Rev. Al Sharpton is suing.
The civil rights activist, angered by a Wall Street Journal op-ed piece written by Rush Limbaugh, threatened a defamation lawsuit Saturday against the conversative talk radio host.
"Unless Mr. Limbaugh apologizes and clarifies his statements, attorneys for Rev. Sharpton will move forward with a lawsuit," said a statement from Sharpton. Limbaugh lashed out at Sharpton over his failed attempt to purchase a piece of the St. Louis Rams.
Sharpton "played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews 'diamond merchants') and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot," Limbaugh wrote.
It is clear the US had an Iranian made videeo showing the detonation of a nuclear weapon, an infomercial for internal consumption, and that the US NIE 2007 team knew or should have known about the Iranian video and purposefully ignored it.
The boil down is that the left in this coutnry willingly compromises American security every chance they get. No one elected these people, they were paid to do a job not make policy. If their actions lead to an Iranian bomb, it is the greatest intentional deriliction of duty since Pearl Harbor.
Ayatollah - so the IAEA sat on this video for almost a year? They're worse than useless. We should throw out the UN; they have not only failed in their mission but they're making things worse.

Which could mean that it was just editorializing on that paper's part - it would certainly help them sell more papers and instill "national pride" or something -if the AP had that as an actual headline, I'd be shocked...
I'm not gonna come right out and say that the AP didn't have that headline, but I'm not gonna say they did, either. I just don't know LOL
I'm not gonna come right out and say that the AP didn't have that headline, but I'm not gonna say they did, either. I just don't know LOL
I will...now that I see what the paper is, it's pretty apparent to me they just write "AP" at the bottom of stuff to try to legitimize it. Funny that they were calling him "Kenyan born" way back then, though. Of course, they've also "marked his birthplace" in Kenya, too. Whacky.
Our own "confidence" is not heightened by the fact that the NIE's main authors include three former State Department officials with previous reputations as "hyper-partisan anti-Bush officials," according to an intelligence source. They are Tom Fingar, formerly of the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research; Vann Van Diepen, the National Intelligence Officer for WMD; and Kenneth Brill, the former U.S. Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
For a flavor of their political outlook, former Bush Administration antiproliferation official John Bolton recalls in his recent memoir that then-Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage "described Brill's efforts in Vienna, or lack thereof, as 'bull--.'" Mr. Brill was "retired" from the State Department by Colin Powell before being rehired, over considerable internal and public protest, as head of the National Counter-Proliferation Center by then-National Intelligence Director John Negroponte.
Atilla - there was something I saw in the Jerusalem Post, I believe, that said there were reports that a new NIE would be produced. This practically guarantees the current one was to embarrass Bush and keep him from doing anything. If Israel gets nuked, these guys should be sent to the radioactive cities for long-term assignments.
*yawn* Saturdays are so much fun when it comes to being lazy. I should get some energy and go do something.

OH, nevermind...it's the "East African" Sunday Standard - kind of looks like they tagged "AP" on the bottom of a story they wrote themselves.
ReplyDeleteI noticed right away that it really didn't look like an AP thing the way we know it here.
That would have been hilarious. (I should probably self-delete )
Looks like a Kenyan newspaper, home page.
