Predator safe zones declared in Seattle.
A ban on guns in certain Seattle park facilities, specifically to protect children, went into effect today, according to the mayor's office.
The move, which has drawn criticism including questions about its legality, affects hundreds of playgrounds, community centers, sports fields, swimming pools and water-play areas.

The city's position, Nickels has said, is that a municipal property owner such as Seattle may impose limits on firearms as a condition of entry or use of particular facilities, particularly those where children and youths are likely to be.
State Attorney General Rob McKenna, however, has disagreed.
In a statement released in mid-September, he said he has a history of working to protect children's safety, but "as Mayor Nickels is aware, the Attorney General's Office issued an opinion in 2008, which found that state law pre-empts local authority to adopt firearms regulations, unless specifically authorized by law."

Blogspot has been psycho all day. Every now and then I'll be creating a post, and there is just suddenly no font style drop down in the Compose window...it's just gone. Today, when I previewed a piece JCM was putting up, it ate some of the text from it and re-positioned a couple of images - it just blew up.

'Israel will attack Iran after December'
ReplyDeleteIsrael is planning to carry out military attacks in Iran after December, a French magazine reported Thursday overnight.
According to a report in Le canard enchainé quoted by Israel Radio, Jerusalem has already ordered from a French food manufacturer high-quality combat rations for soldiers serving in elite units and also asked reservists of these units staying abroad to return to Israel.
The magazine reports further that in a recent visit to France, IDF Chief of General Staff Gabi Ashkenazi told his French counterpart Jean-Louis Georgelin that Israel is not planning to bomb Iran, but may send elite troops to conduct activities on the ground there.
These, according to the magazine, may involve sabotage to nuclear facilities as well as assassinations of top Iranian nuclear scientists.
If true, a bold, creative plan that, arguably, would be more effective and less risky than ariel attacks.
/and wouldn't cause worldwide financial market panic, I like it!
The Israelis would probably have to put guys on the ground....and, it would probably be suicide missions....that is saying alot....it is PATHETIC the USA and the world has not responded to this threat....we will all pay for it one day if nothing is done....pay for it dearly.

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking Israel would use special ops for a while. Not necessarily suicide missions, though; they can be picked up by sub, for example.
ReplyDeleteAnd if they have contacts in the opposition, they might be able to hide out.
They'd be much more effective, if done right, they could make the Iranians doubt their equipment works right.
And if Iran tries to attack Israel afterwards, with conventional weapons, Israel would be able to retaliate; I think the US would have to support them.

All of the Iranian nuclear facilities are pretty far inland. Any insertion of Israeli special forces would have to be via air drop. The plants are all next to Revolutionary Guards bases and well defended. It would not be easy to get in and even harder to get out.

I don't know about suicide missions. Remember, the Israel's were reconnoitering and taking soil samples from around that Syrian nuclear site before it got obliterated. They're experts at covert ground operations, especially assassinations.

These plants are underground under yards and yards of reinforced concrete or built into mountainsides. The only way to blow them up is to either deploy a bunch of our bunkerbusters, or actually get someone inside to blow it up. Both are dangerous. Putting someone on the ground would be suicide. The Iranians learned from the Osirak attack. Even with our new MOP, we may not even destroy it.

THe main problem with successfully attacking these facilities is the country with the capability to do it lacks the will to do it. Under Bush and especially now under Obama - It Ain't going to happen. Israel has the will, but lacks the ability.

ReplyDeleteGiven the nature of such regimes they tend to want to keep the brains of such a project where they can watch them. Especially since they just lost a couple.
It's possible to set them back a few years by targeting infrastructure.
Target the brains, as ugly as that is, it's better than the alternatives, and it's a generation to recover.
The even better option is target the regime. Create a power vacuum and support the more moderate elements.
Not that the current administration has the wits to do it.

I'm doing pretty good. There was some excitement where I was working today, when a car engine in the parking lot caught on fire, and it's battery blew up, and the left front tire melted. No one was hurt, though.

In 2005, I had to deal with a car fire where I was working. The security guards emptied their fire extinguishers on it. By the time I arrived it was still burning.

The security guards here also tried putting it out here, but not under the engine.
