  8. NKorea nearly restores atomic facilities

North Korea is in the final stage of restoring its nuclear facilities, a news report said Tuesday, as leader Kim Jong Il expressed a conditional willingness to end Pyongyang's boycott of international nuclear talks.
South Korean and U.S. intelligence authorities reached the conclusion after scrutinizing about 10 atomic facilities in North Korea since April when the communist regime vowed to restart its nuclear program in anger over a U.N. rebuke of its long-range rocket launch.

  9. Pink,

ACORN IIRC didn't initially report or file charges because they didn't want forensic accountants going through the books.

  10. Fox has been airing an interview by Megan Kelly of Wade Rathke. During the interview he responds to her query of why his brother wasn't prosecuted or even fired for the embezzlement.

His answer, delivered with the same smirking countenance as that of the entire interview, went something like this, "You and I live in different worlds and have different world views. We are about reparations and restitution, not prosecution."

/Their mother must be so proud.

I watched it earlier. The number of 'organizations' that are art tentacles of Acorn are incredible, and that The One worked for them in Chicago for over a year? And he has the unmitigated gall to deny it, and tries to minimize it.

  20. From Breitbart's new site:

AMA Endorses Largest Denier of Health Care Claims

What appears to be the official blog of President Obama’s administration is all aflutter because the President will welcome, “doctors from across the United States to the White House to share their unique perspective on the struggles that American families face every day when it comes to health care.” (They posted today’s agenda in the name of transparency!)

The post even links to a National Public Radio (NPR) story in which a survey of medical professionals indicates they are among the biggest supporters of the so-called “public option.” A co-sponsor of the study, Dr. Alex Federman, indicates that, “physicians favored Medicare when it came to delivering care to patients. They thought Medicare was better when it came to autonomy and their decision making and their ability to get patients the care that they thought the patients needed.”

Furthermore, the American Medical Association (AMA) has endorsed the public option after an appeal from the President and despite, according to ABC News, the fact that “some member physicians at the group’s annual meeting [in June] likened the notion to communism.”

Beverly Gossage, Research Fellow for Show-Me Institute and founder of HSA Benefits Consulting wondered which insurance companies rejected the most claims. She found her answer in the AMA’s own 2008 National Health Insurer Report Card. The chart below appears on page 5 of the 16-page report.

AMA data on biggest deniers of claims (see chart at link)

Of the eight insurers listed, Medicare is most likely to reject a claim, sending away 6.85% of requests. This is more than any private insurer and double that of the private insurers’ average!

In short, the AMA is endorsing a plan whose closest existing example is the most frequent denier of claims. How the public option exemplifies “delivering care to patients” is unclear.

  29. ACORN Hired People ‘Still In Prison’ Convicted of Identity Theft For Canvassing Voters

Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller, a democrat, told Eric Shawn on FOX News that ACORN was hiring convicts still in prison -CONVICTED OF IDENTITY THEFT- for canvassing voters.

Ross said that by executing a search warrant at ACORN headquarters in Nevada the authorities were able to substantiate charges and have a very solid case against ACORN. They believe they can prove that it’s not just a few bad apples it went much higher up in the organization. Ross believes that ACORN and the regional director should be held accountable for the criminal activity that took place in the state.

  30. U.S. to Revise Detention Standards for Immigration Detainees

The Obama administration is expected on Tuesday to unveil an outline of sweeping changes for the nation's immigration-detention system, saying it will decide whom to lock up and for how long based on the danger and flight risk posed by detainees.

Officials familiar with the report said the administration is pledging to revise detention standards and will turn to the private sector for ideas, asking for proposals to construct two model facilities.

Until now, the Obama administration has been reluctant to revise detention standards, which were updated late in the administration of former President George W. Bush. The immigration detention system expanded dramatically during the Bush years as the government took a much tougher line against illegal immigrants.

    ~snip

Ms. Napolitano is expected to announce the moves at a news conference. The officials familiar with Tuesday's announcement said Ms. Napolitano, who has oversight of the immigration detention network through the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency, will also announce plans to develop a new classification system for detainees.

Currently, asylum seekers or other detainees who don't pose a danger can be housed with regular criminals in the U.S. prison system. The goal of the new classification system, officials said, is to avoid mixing criminal and noncriminal detainees.

The Obama administration also will pledge to put in place a screening system to alert officials to special medical or mental-health needs of detainees as they enter detention.

Tuesday's report includes a promise to issue guidelines on alternatives to detaining immigration violators.

The announcement is expected to be criticized as a softening of immigration policy by some Republicans and others who have taken a hard line on illegal immigration. It follows a promise from Obama administration officials in August to alter the detention network.

I'll have to follow up on that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey Pink, thanks! From your link: three memebers of the New Black Panther Party were videotaped wearing black berets, heavy leather jackets and carrying nightsticks and were engaged in shouting racial eptithets at WHITE VOTERS.
"The New Black Panther Party and its members failed to contest the lawsuit, and DOJ had to decide whether or not to enter a default judgement and chose not to.
What do you think the odds are that if three burly WHITE men in Miliary Like Fatigues, with Army Black Berets and weilding nightsticks were to go to a polling place and shout racial epithets at BLACK Voters, that the DOJ under Holder, would fail to pursue a default judgment?

And Eric Holder is the individual whom as Attorney General of the United States is SWORN to protect ALL AMERICANS - how much you want to bet he not only doesn't get close to fulfilling his sworn duty, but that he doesn't even TRY TO?!

    ReplyDelete
  36. JCM - Someone suggested that they might get thrown under the bus along with ACORN by their Sugar Daddy. Suppose they refuse to go?!?
BTW, please see Pink Freud's comment above yours with news about this case from yesterday.

And ANY DAY now, I'll bet that Holder start prattling on about how the DOJ is supposed to be clear of any influence by the Executive Branch.
And Obama wil say, hmmmmm, hmmmm! This does deserve FAR more attention (like SOME attention, at least) by the MSM.

  38. Gen. Patraeus Treated for Prostate Cancer

America’s top military commander in the Middle East was successfully treated with radiation for early-stage prostate cancer this year, The New York Times reported.

Gen. David H. Patraeus had two months of treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center that began in February, the military said in a statement to the paper.

President Obama and his team were informed of the diagnosis and treatment, which the military said took place as the general was in Washington for policy reviews and did not affect his job performance.

He did not reveal the information because he and his family thought it constituted a private matter, according to the statement.

But the NYT called it early stage and I'm questionng their reporting on that.

    ReplyDelete
  45. There isn't a lot out there about his cancer, it seems. They just said it was "early stage".

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey CC - there isn't, but the NYT said he was getting radiation therapy for "early stage" cancer and that is NOT the preffered "first option" for early stage prostate cancer.
Davinci Robotic Surgery is usually preferred.

    ReplyDelete
  47. At what stage do they typically do radiation treatment, realwest?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey cc - well they usually do radiation treatment if the tumor is too large to be surgically removed - by the Davinci Robotic (or actually there's an improved robotic method, but I've forgotten the name of it). Plus, if the cancer has mestates they usually won't do surgery.
And radiation thereapy is USUALLY Five days a week for 8 or 9 straight weeks.

  57. Great piece:

Seven Simple Rules for Health Care Reform

You should read the whole thing, but here are the 7 rules summarized:

    • Make all medical services, insurance and personal savings for such expenses exempt from all federal, state and local income and payroll taxes.

    • Allow an individual or corporate tax deduction equal to double the value of the service for all charity care by medical care providers.

    • Pass legislation now proposed in the U.S. Congress that would give every individual or business the ability to purchase insurance in a national market, from insurance companies in any state.

    • Allow the purchase of basic health insurance with high deductibles and low premiums that covers major illness or injury and annual exams, in conjunction with tax-free accounts for out-of-pocket expenses, such as deductibles.

    • Broaden the availability of optional coverage provided by Medicare Advantage, but allow for additional tax-deductible premiums to be paid by those seniors who elect such options.

    • Allow Medicare patients to utilize their Health Savings Accounts to pay for services from their Medicare physicians.

    • Limit non-economic or punitive damages in all malpractice or other litigation against medical providers or drug and medical equipment firms to a maximum of $250,000 (indexed for inflation).

  59. Ice, Ice Baby: Perfectly Frozen Mammoth

A baby woolly mammoth, frozen in soil for 40,000 years in Siberia, was so well preserved that traces of her mother's milk were still in her stomach.

Lyuba, who was thought to be just one month old, was discovered three years ago when nomadic reindeer dug her up.

Scientists believe she died after being sucked into a river bed.

Mud was found in her trunk and throat, suggesting she had suffocated.
