  3. Well here's an interesting piece of news. That rumour about switching from the US dollar to other currencies to buy oil, was just that. A rumour.

/Soros? Are you messing with currencies again?

  4. White House's botched 'op'

In a heavy-handed attempt at reviving support for health-care reform, the White House orchestrated a massive photo op to buttress its claim that front-line physicians support Obama.

A sea of 150 white-coated doctors, all enthusiastically supportive of the president and representing all 50 states, looked as if they were at a costume party as they posed in the Rose Garden before hearing Obama's pitch for the Democratic overhaul bills moving through Congress.

The physicians, all invited guests, were told to bring their white lab coats to make sure that TV cameras captured the image.

But some docs apparently forgot, failing to meet the White House dress code by showing up in business suits or dresses.

So the White House rustled up white coats for them and handed them to the suited physicians who had taken seats in the sun-splashed lawn area.

  5. Killian,

I linked to something (which I'll never find now) a while back...a poll stating that up to 40% of our doctors would consider quitting if Obamacare passes.

    /sorry, that's WAY scarier!

I can't comment on the quality of training a lot of these foreign doctors get - mostly because I just don't know anything about it. But I DO know that communication between patient and doctor WILL suffer.

    /been there; done that

    ReplyDelete
  13. There was just a story recently about how badly the records of these imported doctors were, compared to the UK-trained doctors. More mistakes, more deaths, etc. That's a big problem even without the imported doctors also trying to blow up Scottish airports.

  31. Clunkers in Practice

Remember "cash for clunkers," the program that subsidized Americans to the tune of nearly $3 billion to buy a new car and destroy an old one? Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood declared in August that, "This is the one stimulus program that seems to be working better than just about any other program."

If that's true, heaven help the other programs. Last week U.S. automakers reported that new car sales for September, the first month since the clunker program expired, sank by 25% from a year earlier. Sales at GM and Chrysler fell by 45% and 42%, respectively. Ford was down about 5%. Some 700,000 cars were sold in the summer under the program as buyers received up to $4,500 to buy a new car they would probably have purchased anyway, so all the program seems to have done is steal those sales from the future. Exactly as critics predicted.

Cash for clunkers had two objectives: help the environment by increasing fuel efficiency, and boost car sales to help Detroit and the economy. It achieved neither. According to Hudson Institute economist Irwin Stelzer, at best "the reduction in gasoline consumption will cut our oil consumption by 0.2 percent per year, or less than a single day's gasoline use." Burton Abrams and George Parsons of the University of Delaware added up the total benefits from reduced gas consumption, environmental improvements and the benefit to car buyers and companies, minus the overall cost of cash for clunkers, and found a net cost of roughly $2,000 per vehicle. Rather than stimulating the economy, the program made the nation as a whole $1.4 billion poorer.

    Remember it?

/hell, we'll be remembering this policy clunker for a long time as we pay the interest on the $4 billion in debt it cost us taxpayers, most of whom didn't even get a new car

    ReplyDelete
  32. VT and JTK, I posted a link up above about #4 comment that says it's a rumour. This story keeps popping up every couple of years. I think Iran is the only country that sells oil for Euros, and was pushing some of the other oil states to do the same. This was back in 2005 or 2006 I think that it first popped up. Give me a second and I will go looking for a link.

/of course I heard the story on Coast to Coast AM

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm sure they don't have our best interests in mind, Kirk. It fits in fine with the One's plans, I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  34. most of whom didn't even get a new car

Some of whom didn't qualify because the cars they wanted to trade in were ALREADY fuel efficient.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It could just be a rumor PP, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Off I go to talk on the phone for 6 hours!
Will stop back later for a sanity break.

Any idea if that "Obama gonna pay my mortgage and give me a new car" woman was one of the cash for clunkers recipients?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Okay here's an article from a reputable source in 2008.

I don't know the veracity of this site, but it's from August 2005.

And here's the Google search I used to find those two. Many others, just be careful about some of the other sources.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I picked this nick for the other site. It was funny; for a long time I was trying to get in on an open registration (they were hard to come by back then)... And when I finally got one, I had no idea what handle to register. Hadn't even thought about it. So this was the first thing that popped in my head. Must've just seen the show the night before or something.

And now, new sites, new name; at least that was the theory.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm not sure they want to destroy the US economy -- too many nations depend on it for support. We are, in essence, a vast insurance reserve. That said, there are interests who would like more control over it and be able to direct it more towards their own intersts.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Any idea if that "Obama gonna pay my mortgage and give me a new car" woman was one of the cash for clunkers recipients?

"Gates suggested U.S. and allied failure to put more troops into Afghanistan in the past, when then-president George W. Bush shifted resources to invade Iraq, gave the Taliban an edge.

"Because of our inability, and the inability, frankly, of our allies, (for putting) enough troops into Afghanistan, the Taliban do have the momentum right now, it seems," Gates said."

"Rumors that Israeli extremists planned to march on a shrine holy to both Jews and Muslims..."

So ... a Jewish Holy place, where the conquering Muslims tore down a Jewish temple, built a mosque and claimed as their own "holy place", in contradiction of the Koran which makes no such claim for the city of Jerusalem, and which place is now closed to Jews, is a "tinderbox of conflict" because Jews, wishing to exercise their right to worship, are trying to enter this place?

Is this what they would tell us, that standing up to religious imperialism is provocative?

  124. The track of the storm

"Spengler from the Asia Times thinks there’s a rough road ahead. While there have been tough times before, he argues the coming days will be different. “President Barack Obama may be remembered for permanent depression, the way that Leon Trotsky’s name is linked with permanent revolution. Fiscal stimulus combined with near-zero interest rates have proven to be a toxic cocktail for the United States, the macroeconomic equivalent of barbiturates and alcohol. … Obama inherited a crisis, to be sure, but he has made it much worse.” How? In part by taking the worst mistakes of the past and doubling down on them. One example, according to Forbes, involves the housing market.

As we try to shake off the financial crisis, here’s a bright idea. Take a law that has led to the writing of an enormous amount of bad mortgages and expand it. Then take enforcement away from bank examiners and give it to housing activists.Sound like a poisonous cocktail? Well, it is what the Obama administration and Democrats are currently stirring up on Capitol Hill."

  125. Idiot & idiots: US funds dry up for Iran rights watchdog

---For the past five years, researchers in a modest office overlooking the New Haven green have carefully documented cases of assassination and torture of democracy activists in Iran. [...]

But just as the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center was ramping up to investigate abuses of protesters after this summer’s disputed presidential election, the group received word that - for the first time since it was formed - its federal funding request had been denied.---

LOTS of people believe Palin said that. A poll would be interesting.

A lot more people think she may as well have said it because she's stupid and/or evil.

It's the Bush dichotomy again, and it exposes a lot of folks' actual beliefs as opposed to what comes out of their mouths.

  128. A Poisonous Cocktail
    Expanding the Community Reinvestment Act.

"As we try to shake off the financial crisis, here's a bright idea. Take a law that has led to the writing of an enormous amount of bad mortgages and expand it. Then take enforcement away from bank examiners and give it to housing activists.

Sound like a poisonous cocktail? Well, it is what the Obama administration and Democrats are currently stirring up on Capitol Hill.

The White House and Congress want to expand a 30-year-old law--the Community Reinvestment Act--that helped to fuel the mortgage meltdown."

Un-f*cking-believeable! Obama wants to take the worst economic idea of the last 30 years and make it even worse.

    How are y'all doing today?
Kenneth my friend you and Killian Bundy have been really on target today. CNN "fact checking" jokes just show what a fucking joke the Communist News Network is.

And I still want an answer as to who was Sec Def under Bush, cause Robert Gates is saying we didn't have enough troops in Afghanistan under the previous administration and I think that whomever was in the Bush administration and had the ability to make that fact KNOWN to Bush shoulda done so, don't y'all?!

  137. ZigZag, just read the post at Zombie's. Wow. Good find. Does Obama know anyone who isn't affiliated with whacko extremists?
As to the actual "offense" that Jennings has committed, I don't know if it's a career killer. As Z. pointed out, there is still time for him to get out in front of this and disavow Hay. Claim he was "misunderstood" or something. The MSM will do the heavy lifting and blame homophobic "right-wingers" if they can get away with it.
If the story does break big, I guess we'll see if Obama thinks this one is worth fighting over.
