Will you just get rid of that spatula already? If you must have a kitchen utensil nearby while you post, try a cheese grater or something. Cheese graters are utilitarian but non-threatening.

  32. 8 out of 13 for 100 might qualify as one really good drive, but zero passing touchdowns nullifies that theory.

Two or three years back the then defensive coach, Rex Ryan (Buddy's other son), went on this strange flight of fancy. Oakland went into two straight seasons with fewer then three linebackers on their roster. Their place on the roster was taken up by a whole fleet of 280lb+ guys euphemistically labeled as "linebackers" but everybody knew they weren't covering anybody downfield. At one point they were starting what could only be described as a 7-4 formation, seven down linemen and four defensive backs.

It worked great for stopping the run. Problem is no team in the NFL establishes the run first anymore. The West Coast offense spelled the end of the "three yards and a cloud of dust" a long time ago.

After three years of fruitlessly screaming "LINEBACKERS" at the unresponding tube, they went nuts. They drafted and signed so many linebackers that one of the extras is now pretending to play quarterback...

Not to mention drafting a potential all-star right tackle and then playing him at every O-line position except right tackle and center...

Fer cryin out loud. Bring back Chucky already.

    #$@^$^!!!,
    R

  37. Render, I'm a Packer fan. This was our bye week. I almost wish EVERY WEEK was bye week. It's the only way I can relax. Two and two - two more touchdowns with 2 pt conversions and we're undefeated. GAH. I hate that. We're on pace to repeat last year...losing by so little, losing a LOT.

    ReplyDelete
  38. CC: yep, keeping it a secret for now. You should be able to penetrate the persona after a ferocious google search though. The "identity" I have picked out makes sense for me. I may have to explain a few of the subtleties of it through the evening though.

  49. Interesting development in Tea-Partyville...

“We will be a headache for anyone who believes the Constitution of the United States … isn’t to be protected,” said Dick Armey, chairman of the anti-tax and limited government advocacy group FreedomWorks, which helped plan and promote the tea parties, town hall protests and the September ‘Taxpayer March’ in Washington. “If you can’t take it seriously, we will look for places of other employment for you.”

“We’re not a partisan organization, and I think many Republicans are disappointed we are not,” added Armey, a former GOP congressman.

Oh man, I wish I could write 1/8th as well as Krauthammer! This headline alone is worth the price of admission.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Clueless in Washington.

Alarmed by the rising jobless rate, Democrats are scrambling to "do something" to create jobs. You may have thought that was supposed to be the point of February's $780 billion stimulus plan, and indeed it was. White House economists Christina Romer and Jared Bernstein estimated at the time that the spending blowout would keep the jobless rate below 8%.

The nearby chart compares the job estimates the two economists used to help sell the stimulus to the American public to the actual jobless rate so far this year. The current rate is 9.8% and is expected to rise or stay high well into the election year of 2010. Rarely in politics do we get such a clear and rapid illustration of a policy failure.

    RTWT!

1)Obama is leaving Afghanistan. Said that a while back and I'm sticking to it.
    Love Krauthammer.

2)Stimulus ? Wow, that almost duplicates what has happened to the schools even after throwing good money at a problem. Being a Dem means never having to learn from past mistakes. It's a new day!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Good morning.

Look for the market to open on the upside this morning as more money comes off the sidelines and gets back into the market.

The stimulus bill has so far been a failure, so look for the socialists to do what socialists always do, and say that the cure is even more socialism.

  73. Good Morning CCers!

Can anyone tell me when pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training?

    Grrrr!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. The only way jobs will be created is if government just stays the fuck out of the process.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Also, look for oil to rise as the dollar keeps plummeting.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The problem with our economy right now is that people accept as fact that there are more important things than profit. However, from the standpoint of a business owner, there is nothing more important than profit. Not only does the business owner and his family rely on profit, so do all of his employees, his suppliers, his shippers, his retailers, his customers and on and on... If a business owner does not make a profit, he goes out of business, then all those other people are S.O.L. as well. Profit is King! Until we, as a nation, accept that as fact we will continue to struggle to rebound financially.

    ReplyDelete
  77. squatch,

    1. I agree with your assessment. Maybe some people will remember that old "Afghanistan is the good war" schtick that the Dems used to run against Bush...someday. I just HOPE it's not after something bad happens. :-(

Regardless, what they were trying to avoid - the appearance of being soft on defense - will come back to haunt them, I predict.

    2. It doesn't help in the least that the realities of what Roosevelt did by manipulating the economy (the same way the Dems are trying to do now) during The Depression IS NOT TAUGHT....

"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong . . . somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises. . . . I say after eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started. . . . And an enormous debt to boot."

    --Henry Morgenthau, Roosevelt’s Treasury Secretary
