I've told the guys downstairs to come up. Tomorrow is my first work day again after two weeks.

So I'll have only one and then I must leave earlier today.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Cal, here you are. Check out the cute glasses we got. Be sure to take one home.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thanks for sending them up.

What time is it there now?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hi, Brandy. I'll have a glass of wine again.
I stayed in. We even got snow here in central Massachusetts, and some of it stuck. Tomorrow morning will not be a good commute.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It tastes that much better now. :-)

Kosh - Fun 'n slip commute. Have you changed to M&S tires yet?

  8. I don't envy you folks who have to deal with snow. It is pretty and that's about it.

  10. Wow, I knew it was something like that. Hope you don't have to get up too early.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thank you, Brandy.

As for tires, my car is new (around 2-3000 miles) and the tires are supposed to be good in the winter. I'll see. They have to be better than my old car, which had some real problems when it got out of alignment, and did not have antilock brakes. But I've avoided accidents in the winter.

  12. DEZ, you were a cute little tyke. LOL Are you drinking San Miguel's tonight in honor of your misspent youth?

  13. Hi everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend. Just got back from Jacksonville. I went up to see my cousin and to catch a Jags game. Exhusted. I will have a scotch please Brandy.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow, that's early alright. The average joe around here doesn't start until 8:00.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Misspent youth?
    Sacrilege!
    Yes please Brandi. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. DEZ,
    I was a bottle baby. ;)

Same here, so we have issues as they say. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Here's your scotch Erik. Hope the game was a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks Brandy. It was. Jags won in OT. Worth the drive. :)))

  19. Hello everybody! Brandy please, brandy...

A truly lovely day up here today. Cool & sunny, fall colours on the leaves. We closed up the cottage today after a last walk on the beach.

  20. Brandy - six of my eight hours work time are to give computer 101 classes and teaching how to make CVs. Stresses you out quite considerably!

  21. Yes callahan, we have issues.
    We like bosoms!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Cal, I wouldn't want to teach Computer 101, especially to someone like me. ;-)

    Coming right up Kenneth.

  23. Evening, all. Kids are put down for the night and I'm beat from taking care of the sick ones. Our daughter is tougher and less whiny than her little brothers. They are such little bitches when they're sick.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Here you are Kenneth. Sounds beautiful up where you are.

  25. Brandy,
Cal, I wouldn't want to teach Computer 101, especially to someone like me. ;-)

  29. Latest on Khamenei Watch

The Balouchistan Bomb and Other Explosions

"The bombing was a very big deal. It was indeed a suicide bombing, the man’s name was Abdul Rahed Mohammadi Sarabani, who was associated with the military wing of Jundullah, headed by Abdulmalik Khan Rigi. The IRGC had killed two of his brothers, and this was an act of vengeance, carried out to inflict maximum damage on the RGs. The target was a large theater, which holds up to two thousand people. It is part of a large military complex, one of the most important in the country.

The people there were attending an urgent strategy session. Due to the recent attacks by the Pakistani armed forces in Waziristan, many al Qaeda and Taliban leaders and fighters had fled to the Iranian side of the Baluchistan border (Sarbaz is less than an hour’s drive from the Pakistani side). Here is a map from Google.

The purpose of the strategy session was to assist the terrorists, to help them reorganize, to rearm them, to arrange to get them back into Pakistan and, for at least some of them, thence to Afghanistan. For that reason, attendance counted many very important people."

  30. It's dark, I have a bunch of papers to finish grading and kids to get into bed.

I am a perfectly diurnal creature, which makes winters rough for me. When the sun goes down I want to sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Here you go, Spenser. This should take the edge off.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Lucius. Anything to drink before you take off?

    ReplyDelete
  33. You're welcome, Kenneth.

    Interesting news from Iran indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. In defiance of all you good people here and the excellent fun.
I do need my sleep urgently, alas it'll be short.

  36. The Iranian regime is unraveling now. Unexplained explosions, questionable fires, assassinations, etc. The regime will play hardball, but apparently, so are who ever is behind these bombings.

  40. This port is going down nicely, thanks Brandy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Irish Coffee, if you please, Miss Brandy.

    Any Port in a storm!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Port is often used for communion wine since it's higher alcohol content makes it more hygienic. It also has a strong enough flavor to make you aware you've had something to drink.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Here you are Lucius. I fixed it up real pretty for you. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Evening folks!

What a gorgeous autumn weekend. Loads of sinshine made it just perfect for strolling 'round the 'hood and the nearby forest and the fall perfume! Intoxicating!

I took Lil Miss to the groomers to trim her nails and what is a 5 min car ride, took us 40 mins to walk one way and another 40 to return but it was loverly to be outside today.

Did someone mention Port? Coincidentally, I slaved over a hot stove caramelizing spanish onions into a classic French Onion soup this afternoon and added some Port to deglaze. Heavenly aroma and sublime flavor. Wunnerful.

Miss Brandy, luv, I'll take a glass of Port, pleaseandthankyou!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Miss Trixie, with you here, we all can enjoy sunshine.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Miss Trixie, I can smell your soup from here! Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi there Miss Trixie. Sounds like you had a wonderful day! Did you take any pictures?

Here's a glass of port for you.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Just read two excellent papers by excellent students. There are pearls in some of these oysters after all.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'll bet that makes you feel good Lucius.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Pictures? I usually carry my camera everywhere I go when we terrorize the 'hod but for some reason I completely forgot today. I'll have to remember for the next time and then I'll post a few. In the fall leaves, you can't pick out Lil Miss on the forest floor - she blends right in - except for the jewelled barrette that read "DIVA!" in her hair. :D

    *sip*

    Perfect! Thanks Brandy, you're a fine girl ... :D

    ReplyDelete
  53. Which reminds me of a poem written by a very sweet but rather dim student many years ago. She built the entire poem around a metaphorical pearl. The image she was aiming at was "pearl of wisdom," but what she ended up with "pearl beyond price."

When I explained that this was frequently used as a literary and theological metaphor for virginity, she got horribly embarassed. The crux of the poem was that she was trying to offer wisdom to a teacher (not me) who she thought had erred greatly in his search for knowledge (which he had IMHO). What it ended up sounding like on account of the ill-chosen metaphor was a plea for him to deflower her.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Brandy -- if I can get through to one in twenty, I feel like my existence is somehow justified.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'll bet your Lil Miss had a wonderful time today, Miss Trixie.

My little Mr. and little Miss don't know it yet but they are getting baths later.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Lucius, Lucius, Lucius.

You owe me a new keyboard.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Of course had the double-entendre been intentional and masterfully executed, the poem had been truly magnificent. As it was, there was no tension intended.

    ReplyDelete
  58. That sounds about right Lucius. Wonder if out teachers said the same about us. Somehow, I think we had a much higher percentage.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Good evening friends. Finally stopped raining here. How are things?

    ReplyDelete
  60. We had a great time and she's now snoring on the Commie Sofa with a full fuzzy tummy, dreaming her Big Dog dreams and belching every once in a while like the lady she is. :D

My little Mr. and little Miss don't know it yet but they are getting baths later.

    *snicker*

    ReplyDelete
  61. Things are a little slow here at the pub, Violet, but we're having a nice time. Are you drinking your usual?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks, Brandy.
The apple pie leaked in the oven and made a smokey mess here. Mr Tiger is cranky. But the Phils are winning! And there is a bunch of funny stuff on the net tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Miss Trixie, I was planning on doing earlier but little Miss was hiding. LOL, there is a little chihuahua down the street that hates his baths too, I often see his "mom" chasing him down the block with a towel in her hand. Towels are a dead giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  64. *finshes the last sip of excellent Port*

    *yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn*

Thanks for the bevvie, Brandy, and it's time for my beauty sleep. It's been a marvelous day and I have work tomorrow that needs gettin' done so I'll say goodnight to everyone.

I can't post from work but I'll stop in after. Until tomorrow, have a loverly evening, all.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Get a cat, friends. They bathe themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Here you are Violet.

I've seen a few funny things on the web too but haven't been home much so need to catch up.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Okay, who is still in the pub tonight?
I've got an apple pie to share.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hey VT, we've had that happen before in the oven, caramelized sugars making a blue smoke pour out of your oven.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sweet dreams Miss Trixie. Stop by again soon!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Spenser, it also makes for a cranky husband, scurrying cats and smoke alarms.
    Ah, domestic bliss.....

    ReplyDelete
  71. Lucius, did you ever see the Twilight Zone episode, "The Changing of the Guard"?
In it, a teacher feels his life has been wasted, but learns that it was not.

To avoid spoilers, I'll leave you to look up more.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Gonna get ready for Monday morning, night all.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Later my green buddy. Sleep tight.:)))

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'll take a piece of pie but it doesn't seem fair that I get the pie while your hubbie gets the smoke :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Erik, he's not green tonight, he's red, white and blue.

    ReplyDelete
  76. 'Night Dez, Miss Trixie.

Oh, and Mr Tiger moaned and groaned so much, he deserves the smoke ;)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oy.

There is a kid who, on his last paper, used Roman numerals to number the footnotes. I told him that, acc. to the Chicago Manual of Style, he needed to use Arabic numerals.

So what did he do? He used the Arabic font for the numbers in the notes.

    Back to square one.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Apple pie and port? Hmmmm.

Actually, Apple Pie, a big chunk of Chedder and a pint of Stout makes for a nice winter luncheon.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Jorline, Hi! Sorry, I had a phone call from Helen looking for Sage. LOL Coming right up with your beer.

    ReplyDelete
  80. VT -- seriously -- try it some time. Apple Pie, a wedge of sharp chedder, and a pint o' Guiness. It is truly a yummy combination.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'll try it. Do like the cheddar with the pie.

    ReplyDelete
  82. VT Brussel Sprouts and Beer!

    Mmmmmm Mmmmmm Mmmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  83. BRAAAAAAAANDY! How are you doing? Pretty quiet in here tonight. (Weekends are just like that.)

    ReplyDelete
  84. We need avatars back. Bare even told them how to fix it!

  85. My wife just gave me a sip of her homemade hot chocolate and asked me to guess the secret ingredient..

Cayenne pepper. Hmm. Pretty good, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Jorline, don't start with that mmm mmmm mm.
    Gah, I hate that song.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Do you want some Guiness then, Violet?

    ReplyDelete
  88. CC, I've been meaning to ask. I had assumed that whoever was running the blog at the moment was CC, but you seem to be the same person. And female, correct. Pardon the stupid questions.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Spenser, I have a friend who makes gourmet chocolates, and I learned that from her...it's amazing stuff. She makes chili pepper truffles.

  92. I thought that the Incas used all kind of non-sweet spices with chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Just a pinch to cut through her plugged sinuses. It's still sweet, but with an afterbite.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Here you are then Violet! Thanks again for the apple pie. It was yummy.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Chocolate and peppers make a natural combination -- Mole Sauce, for example.

    My recipe for hot chocolate?

    1 1/2 cup milk
    1/2 cup cream
    1/4 cup sugar
    2 blocks bakers chocolate
    pinch salt.

Heat up the milk, cream, sugar, and salt. Add chopped up chocolate. Slowly heat until it foams up. Remove from heat and beat down. Return to heat until it foams up again and beat down -- do this a total of three times, then pour into glasses.

    ReplyDelete
  96. There are no stupid questions, Spenser! Only stupid answers, from me. ; )

I am the only one using this nick (because this started as my Blogspot - which we never intended to use to build the community, but because the new place is taking a while, we opened it up for everyone while we wait), but there are a bunch of people doing different jobs on the blog. I am female, yes. C2 is essentially Running Bare's (it was his concept, and the real site is at his domain, with his hosting - and he is a software engineer, building the new place from scratch for us), but it's really a team effort and there's input from all kinds of people, including the community.

I'm happy to answer anything you're curious about, if I can.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Thank, Brandy.

Mole sauce? I like my moles with ketchup, thanks.

  98. VioletTiger -
I believe the Inca chocolate wasn't sweet; they didn't have sugar the way we do.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Brandy, I'm having a pumpkin spice latte, so I'm covered - I brought it in with me. Thanks. : )

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well, C² thank you for this place. It is much more comfortable than the old one.

    ReplyDelete
  101. C2, did we know you before as somebody else? You don't have to say if you prefer not.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I have a Japanese recipe for Moles under Grass.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Kosh, you're so very welcome. Thank you for being here.

And V/T, yes, you guys did know me before and I'm sure that info will come your way eventually - I just don't say it here 'cause I don't want others to be disappointed when they find out. 105. Moles under grass?

Where we have our dogs boarded and groomed, they once found a dog had dug up under his kennel (outside with a dirt floor) and caught and eaten a mole.
Not one of our dogs, but I wouldn't put it past our largest (standard poodle, 63 lbs).

    ReplyDelete
  106. Brandy, I haven't, and I've been thinking about that a lot! I figured he was just doing interesting weekend things...I hope he's all right. I sure miss his sense of humor when he's not around!

    ReplyDelete
  111. CC, after that last article I read at Newsweek, calling Fox un-American, I don't know that I'll ever click on one of their links again. Trash rag.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  114. Hi pub persons. LOL. How's everybody doing?

    ReplyDelete
  115. Oh, they are. See, they're American. FNC, not so much. America is now left-wing, and if you're not 100% left-wing (it's not as though FNC has NO contributors on the left), you're out of step I guess.

It's like how it used to be bash the POTUS 24/7, but now, suddenly, it's important to "respect the office". Just overnight, it became important to do that. Nevermind the eight-year orgy of hatred the left just subjected us to.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Evening mates, been hanging out at the unmentionable 2.0 site. I see a lot of names I haven't talked to in a while. Its been a beautiful day in ATL, and I will take a stout please....

  128. The Obama admin getting into the media tussle with Fox is a bad move, we saw it coming six months ago with the snubbing of the NYT in favor of the Huffington Post. So the Obama attack on Fox is no surprise and as even the liberals have noted, is already backfiring against Obama with Fox news ratings continuing to grow and dominate the category. I predict an Obama implosion in two years at the latest. It will not be pretty! The problem is the Republicans are still "Democrat lite" offering no real solutions for our bloated government and the insane deficit that both parties created.

    ReplyDelete
  129. LoFlyer! It's really nice to see you mate!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Thanks, PBJ! Glad you could make some time for us. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  133. LoFlyer, here's our policy statement if you'd like to take a look at it. (There are a couple of versions floating around.)

There's also something I'd like to say generally about this (not aimed at you, LoFlyer - to everyone who might be reading), because I think some people don't understand what drives us here - we don't really have our policy because we're trying to tell people how to think or feel about anything. We really don't intend to do that at all.

The primary reason we have it is to try to keep the focus of this blog from becoming other blogs, or blog wars - because our vision for C2 is something else. We just don't want to spend energy working on something that focuses on some other experience - we want to create a new one. We don't seek to tell anyone how to feel, where else to post or not post, what to say, what to think - we just ask that on C2, we look ahead.

We've pulled a lot of posts that don't do anything other than mention someplace or someone - and we wish we didn't have to do that, but it just keeps comments from snowballing and helps keep the overall tone on-track.

Anyway, WELCOME and we're glad to see you.

    ReplyDelete
  134. You are so awesome, Brandy. Remind me to double your salary.
