Curious how the Nobel Committee gave Obama a Peace Prize for promising, in what was widely noted as an empty speech, to eliminated nuclear weapons. The president admitted the goal may not be reached in his lifetime, which implies it would not be entirely his won achievement. French President Sarkozy sounded the note of realism when he undecoriously pointed out to the naive Obama that while he was busy making pretty speeches, at least two states, North Korea & Iran, were busily building their won nuclear weapons.
ReplyDeleteNever mind reality, it's intentions that matter most to the Nobel Committee, even more than actual results. For if they cared more about results, then the committee should have given the Peace Prize to the US President who actually did reduce the greatest number of nuclear weapons in the world: George W. Bush.

Bush also rid the world of a medieval theocracy in Afghanistan & a nasty dictator when he liberated Iraq. Bush must also be credited with stopping the secret nuclear weapons program of Libyan dictator Moammar Qaddafi, and with breaking up the nuclear black market of A. Q. Khan. Bush did all this in concert with other nations and appropriate international organizations, when possible. Contrary to his reputation as a unilateralist who snubbed his nose at the UN, Bush only acted without the UN support when it was clear that a handful of corrupt governments were reluctant to help the US in a project that would upset their illegal profits. Russia and China were making a lot of money selling weapons to Iraq, in violation of a UN resolution, while a French oil company, Total-ELF, with its deep connections to the French government of the day, was poised to make billions on developing Iraq's oil fields as soon as they could figure a way around UN sanctions.
Obama got the Nobel Prize George W. Bush should have got.
Kenneth, was that 2002 arms reduction treaty w/ Russia ever ratified? I agree though, W already walked much of Obama's talk in that regard.

Somali minister aided Shabaab suicide attack
ReplyDeleteShabaab had excellent intelligence on when and how to launch the coordinated attack because the minister, a former warlord also known as "Indha'adde" or "white eyes," had sold Shabaab the necessary information for $50,000 through a middleman.

Kenneth - Until and unless the history books write honestly, that spot waaaay back in my brain says that President Bush actually accomplished more positive results than acknowledged so far and/or may ever be acknowledged. That was a good post. Thanks.

Hi Trixie,
ReplyDeleteThe fambly is well thanks, turkey is in the oven, looking forward to stuffing my face this evening.
I checked that website, & I have to say I won't be reading it again. The guy endorses Fjordman & the EDL. They are fascist & racists and I will have nothing to do with anybody of that stripe. Their counterjihad posture, including the pro-Israel rhetoric, is a temporary & cynical strategy they have taken to advance their goals which are the antipathy of freedom & democracy.
No thanks.
