Yep, YTMND.com has had more than its share of problems.

When in doubt, avoid sites like that.

  44. Whew, for a minute there, I thought I was talking to myself!
And hey Pi Guy, since this is Today in History, perhaps we could add the following (courtesy of Wiki):
1378 – Papal Schism: Unhappy with Pope Urban VI (pictured), a group of cardinals started a rival papacy with the election of Antipope Clement VII, throwing the Roman Catholic Church into turmoil.
1854 – The Crimean War began with a Franco-British victory over Russian forces at the Battle of Alma near the River Alma in Crimea.
1870 – The Bersaglieri entered Rome, ending the temporal power of the Pope and completing the unification of Italy.

  45. Hey PaladinPhil - is that thinking of bed as in sleeping or in joining someone who's been waiting for you?!

  46. 1870 – The Bersaglieri entered Rome, ending the temporal power of the Pope and completing the unification of Italy.

I covered that. It's in both the linked video, and in the highlights:

Highlights of this day in history: Ferdinand Magellan begins his attempt to circumnavigate the globe. The Papal States were taken over by Italian troops, leading to the unification of Italy. Hugo Chavez speaks at the UN. Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs in the Battle of the Sexes.

  47. Hey JCM, y'all said "Kinda hard to market old fashioned Marxism......" which IS true. OTOH, today in America,it's easier than it has been since the Great Depression!
Or as my friend Desert Sage would say "Lefty just wants everything for free!"

    ReplyDelete
  48. real: going to bed by myself to sleep. No one to join tonight. Besides if there was someone else around, I wouldn't be here. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. RW,

    Yep,

Just wait till they see the cost of all the free stuff....

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well shoot Pi Guy, I apologize, I just didn't see it there!
    Sorry!
BTW, the Billie Jean King "event" was,as far as tennis matches go, a farce didn't you think?
I mean Bobby Riggs did what he ALWAYS did best, con folks into paying him money for not doing much.

    ReplyDelete
  51. PaladinPhil - I know what y'all mean - there ain't anyone here either, and I'm contemplating going to bed myself!

I think it was largely meant for fun, but was an iconic moment, nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well JCM, see that's a problem right there. Most of the Left Elites who are pushing for the government (that means taxpayers!) to hand out "free stuff" are pretty damn rich themselves, thereby carrying the Left/Democratic meme to it' logical conclussion: We got ours, screw you.I mean Sen. Kerry and Speaker Pelosi are two of the very richest folks in Government (and at $1.67 billion bucks, net worth, Kerry's kinda up there with all the rich folks who aren't in government) and they ALREADY own their luxury homes, second and third homes, have no worries about health care (nevermind their money on this, the taxpayers give congresscritters the absolute BEST health care insurance (and care) on the planet)retirement, putting kids through college, making the next mortgage/rent payments and the like. And THEY are the ones who are gonna RAVAGE the middle class and the INCOMES of the rich (they say) to give Lefty all that free stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  55. RW,

We have a professional political class almost an oligarchy. They exempt themselves from the very laws they hold us too. Then you have trash like Rangel who should be in jail and he sits as chair on the most powerful committee in the House (Ways and Means). Pelosi writes exemption into wage laws for her husbands business, Reid plays real estate games.

But you know who the problem is?

You and I, we're the racists for opposing Obama, we're inciting violence, we're the ones who don't want change.

Yep, that's the climate we live in. Criminals in charge, and the ones speaking out are the problem.

    *spit*

  56. Pi,

Like I said earlier. Ziggy had a big piece of getting us into the Iran mess when he advised Rabbit Bait. He's got a piece of screwing up the mideast, why the F* anyone listens to that turd is beyond me.

  57. Well I am off to bed now. Can't think of anything more to say. Weet dreams all and see you tomorrow possibly.

  58. Hey Pi Guy - I can't believe that even Obama would take Zbigniew Brzezinski on as a foreign policy advisor. I mean, really. Aside from Obama's professed desire (while campaigning anyway) for hope and change and to do away with the "Beltway culture" most of his "advisors" were either from Chicago (Rahm Emmanuel) or from the Clinton Administration
(Leon Panetta and of course Hillary) why the hell would he reach back in time to grab onto
Zbigniew Brzezinski - the guy who let Khomeni come back into power, take over our embassy, have Jimmy Carter immediately take the military option off the table to get our hostages back and then approve that truly poorly conceived and carried out "rescue" mission (through no fault of the brave US Troops who were there) when Carter looked like he was gonna get his head handed to him by Reagan - come in as a Security or Foreign Policy advisor? I mean this seriously - what the hell did Brzezinski EVER get CORRECT?!
I'm telling ya, while I don't think US troops would mutiny or anything like that, I do think that any order for the US to shoot down Israeli aircraft would be met with the worst political meltdown in history.
And , with all due respect, it dosn't really matter about the Holiday it's the idea that suddenly American Jews who voted OVERWHELMINGLY for Obama are - I hope - going to be enraged at this idea much less OUTRAGED if it's carried out.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm out too.

Off to see grandma tomorrow catch ya'll sometime next week.

  60. G'Nite JCM.

To steal a line from littleoldlady, they're dropping like flies!

    ReplyDelete
  61. JCM - you're right about the fact that we have a professional political class almost an oligarchy. They exempt themselves from the very laws they hold us too.
But WHAT THE HELL DOES IT TAKE for Americans to WAKE THE HELL UP?!? None of the things you've mentioned are "hidden away" (although I suppose if the MSM doesn't report on it - curious that, eh? - then it is hidden away.
And btw, iirc, Rangel is the Chairman of the House Ethics committee! And how many of Obama's appointment to cabinet level posts were in fact tax cheats and a lot who wouldn't accept a nomination to a cabinet level post were also tax cheats?
I honestly believe - especially if any of the five versions of healthcare now circulating are adopted, then by 2010 or 2011 at the absolute latest, the entire city of Washington D.C. won't be big enough to hold all of the "tea party" protestors.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well I don't know if we're dropping like flies Pi Guy, but I'm definitely outta here - cripes it's going on 2:00AM!

  71. Obama's lawyer dominates Democratic money machine

In the heat of the 2008 Democratic primary campaign, when members of candidate Barack Obama's staff began to fret about the potential for illegal attempts to intimidate voters on Election Day in Nevada, the campaign's general counsel calmly told everyone on a staff conference call to settle down.

Don't worry, attorney Robert Bauer is said to have counseled. If necessary, the campaign will simply call the local authorities and have the opposition forces arrested.

That wasn't really Mr. Bauer's plan, of course. But the dose of bravado became such a rallying point, campaign staffers printed up T-shirt's with the quote, "We may have to have some people arrested" on the back. On the front it read, "I ♥ Bob Bauer."
