Unlike President Obama, Joe Wilson is no "Serial Apologist".

Love may mean you never have to say, "I'm sorry", but in politics you can never say "I'm sorry" enough...

Wilson noted that he already apologized directly to the White House after shouting, "You lie," to the president during his Wednesday address to a joint session of Congress. The outburst triggered a political firestorm, but Wilson told "FOX News Sunday" that Democrats are just "playing politics" by trying to drag out the issue and force another apology. "I've apologized one time. The apology was accepted by the president, the vice president. ... I am not apologizing again," he told "FOX News Sunday."
...

"I believe in the truth. What I heard was not true," Wilson explained Sunday. "I believe (Obama) was misstating the facts."

  1. Well littleoldlady, I may be in a distinct minority here, but I think Joe Wilson's "outburst" when President Obama addressed both Houses of Congress was totally out of line - really, this isn't Great Britain where the out-of-power party's "back benchers" routinely heckel the Prime Minister (or anyone else they feel like) and I surely noticed a LOT of GOP lawmakers literally wince when he made that outburst - so I do think he owes Obama an apology (according to the news sources I saw, Wilson called Obama who refused to take his call and then Emmanuel got on the phone and Wilson apologized to him. That was the "apology to the White House").
I'm not at all sure that he ever apologized to President Obama directly but if not he surely ought to try the old fashioned way: write him a snail mail apology and let the political debates on Health care, Cap and Trade and the economy get going again.

  2. I can't believe it took me 30 minutes to post that comment - using TypePad - kept getting the Open ID credentials couldn't be verified, then the letters verification, followed by another your open ID credentials couldn't be verified!
Is anyone here using google and NOT experiencing this problem?

  3. I don't think Wilson did the right thing either with his outburst, realwest, but I didn't hear that his apology was a non-apology. (Would you happen to have a link for that?) I believe that Congress DOES have more important things to do than to beat this dead horse until it's... pining for the fjords.

  4. I'm using Google (signed up last night) and not having any problems at all.

As for Joe Wilson's outburst, civility is one thing, obeisance is something else.

  5. What non-apology littleoldlady - I heard it on Fox news - Wilson called Obama who wouldn't take the call and Wilson then apologized to Rahm Emmanuel - thus the apology to "the White House" part of Wilson's comment.

  37. Now folks, ya'll must understand there's two sides to this story.

There's what really happened, and then there's the translation (according to Maureen Dowd, mouthpiece for the race-baiters):

Surrounded by middle-aged white guys — a sepia snapshot of the days when such pols ran Washington like their own men’s club — Joe Wilson yelled “You lie!” at a president who didn’t.

But, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!

  41. Get this, now some economists are talking about not using GDP to measure well being anymore (basically cause the numbers don;t look so good).

    At Bloomberg you get this:

Stiglitz Urges End to GDP ‘Fetish’ in Favor of Broader Measures

Sept. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel Prize- winning economist, urged world leaders to drop an obsession with examining gross domestic product and focus more on broader measures of prosperity.

“GDP has increasingly become used as a measure of societal well-being and changes in the structure of the economy and our society have made it increasingly poor one,” Stiglitz said in an interview today in Paris.

GDP is a primary measurement of the standard of living. If GDP is going up faster than your population, you have an increasing standard of living, pure and simple. Right now, the numbers do not support the socialist drift world wide, so some want to change the measurement toll to match the spin.

  48. Here is some valid criticism of the Fed:

Fed Failed to Curb Flawed Bank Lending, Inspector General Says
    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=atgnqYrMSrtI

Sept. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Federal Reserve examiners failed to rein in practices that led to losses from excessive real estate lending at two banks in California and Florida that later closed, the central bank’s inspector general said.

Riverside Bank of the Gulf Coast in Cape Coral, Florida, “warranted more immediate supervisory attention” by the Atlanta district bank, Fed Inspector General Elizabeth Coleman said in a report to the central bank’s board. In overseeing County Bank in Merced, California, the San Francisco Fed should have taken a “more aggressive supervisory” approach, Coleman said in another report, also dated Sept. 9.

The findings follow criticism by lawmakers including Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd, who say the Fed failed to curtail flawed underwriting and other lending abuses that contributed to the collapse of the housing market. Another report by the Fed’s inspector general in June faulted the Atlanta Fed’s oversight of First Georgia Community Bank.

Congress is reviewing a U.S. Treasury proposal to give the Fed more power by making it the supervisor for large and interconnected firms that may damage the U.S. financial system in the event of failure. The Treasury plan is part of an effort to overhaul U.S. financial regulation.

“The Fed does not come out smelling like a rose,” said Gilbert Schwartz, former associate general counsel of the Fed board and now a partner at law firm Schwartz & Ballen LLP in Washington. “There are things that could have been done better.”

I think this is legit criticism, but they still should not be put under onerous audit pressure by Congress. Leave the Fed alone.

Yes, the participation of government spending should be emphsized and the environmental sustainability taken into consideration.

In other words, the more government spending and the more tree hugger stuff, the better.

  55. 3 wood! YAY! :-) :-) :-)

From now on, instead of the GDP, we'll be using The Mattress Factor to gauge the health of the economy. As in...

"And in business news...The U.S. switched to the Mattress Factor as a leading indicator of economic stability. This was made possible by new questions added to the U.S. Census, including, 'How many mattresses are in this home?' and 'How much of your money is stored in them?'. Using actuarial tables, the government is then able to estimate the value of personal assets, as well as collect estate taxes based upon the number of mattresses that are passed on to heirs.

In other news...chiropractors are reporting a 45% increase in business across the board, with most patients complaining of lower back pain..."

  70. Some of the pics are disgusting

Yes, they are, Tark, but we have to acknowledge that we are a very diverse people. This is true tolerance, IMO, and where the first amendment shines.

Acknowledging the dark nature of the few bad that have always been mixed in among the good and the righteous is part of the mix. It's not necessarily an indicator of alignment ....although it's the only card the left has to play right now to discredit these gatherings and their attendees.

I say it's propaganda and it won't work. See it for what it is.

  72. I think the WH is scared silly over the tea party and town hall movements. I watched several videos of the tea party march and what I saw were typical American families there with their kids. Lots of signs, some over-the-top and some inappropriate, but many were just typical "I love America!" or "I'm not astroturf!" and such.

Also saw LOTS of American flags. The left, the msm, and some blogs have chosen to focus only on the absurd, the kooks and the fringe in order to marginalize and discredit this movement. This movement is about Americans not wanting the government in their health care or in their wallets. Amen to both!

  75. When I see vile, hateful protest signs coming from the left or right, I cringe - but my deeply planted instinct as an American citizen is to say to myself, "That is America. That is protected speech."

Whatever I think of the sentiment expressed, the overriding feeling I have is that this country wouldn't be what it is without the right to be utterly offensive, as many leftists, especially, are to me. As much as I hate their message at times, I want to protect their right to express disagreement with government.

There is simply no way to keep bad people away from a public protest without endangering that right.

So, we live with it. It's ugly sometimes, but the alternative is potentially even uglier, I think.

P.S. Freedom in disagreement and a level playing field will be the lifeblood of C2. If you disagree with "Correspondence Committee", please have at it. You risk nothing by speaking your mind here, as long as you follow the guidelines above the posting field.

    ReplyDelete
  136. doing just fine RB.
Been a little lazy this weekend, went out to restock is about all.

  138. Thanks. I might need something like "linking for dummies", however. LOL

Hmmm... I'll dig around some. I've added a "Help & Support" section on the new (coming soon, I promise!!!!) site, where there will be a bunch of FAQ/Tutorials for everyone.

I've made it easier on the upcoming (really, I mean it!!!) site, however, in that to create a link, all you have to do is highlight the word/phrase in the comment editor, and click a link button, paste in the url, and voila! Instant link!

    :D

  139. Thanks for setting this up.

Most of the heavy lifting here was done by my partner-in-crime, Capitalist Piglet, and a whole host of others (Pink, Realwest, LittleOldLady, Pi Guy, etc...) - truly a group effort. :)

    ReplyDelete
  140. Looking forward to it, Running Bare. I am technically challenged. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  141. Got On My Traveling Shoes!!!

dang ... I need remedial linking help ... that took me five minutes ... let's see if it works ....

    ReplyDelete
  142. Thank you RB and all others for putting so much time into a forum that we can enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Looking forward to it, Running Bare. I am technically challenged. :-)

I just want everyone to be able to enjoy the place, without being frustrated by stupid stuff. Hopefully, it will work out that way, and we can all get down to some serious discussions without all that frustrations, drama, etc...

    I can't wait to finish it :)

    ReplyDelete
  144. Whaaa ... like you need a life or something RunningBare? ... just kidding ... thanks ya'll for the site and cannot wait to see the new place ...

    ReplyDelete
  145. Whaaa ... like you need a life or something RunningBare?

I didn't have one before, why have one now??? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  146. Well, thanks to all who put in their time and effort.

I'll try this linky thing with an article I was going to post somewhere else the other day but decided it was a waste of time.

    Link

    ReplyDelete
  147. RB ... well everybody has a dry spell sometimes ... I am feeling pretty dang good right now ... but um ... that is always subject to "CHANGE" ...

    ReplyDelete
  148. Awesome! More ethics waivers ROTFL... Without those "waivers", he wouldn't have a cabinet LOL

    ReplyDelete
  149. Right on ETR.

BTW, I have no idea how I watched football before THE PLASMA.

    Amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  150. SoS ... this part cracked me up ... thought he was not going to have any lobbyist ... but I guess the super special ones are okay ...

"In each of those cases the White House claimed that “reasonable exceptions” were issued to the ethics rules in the public’s interest because the candidates had unequalled qualifications. The same compelling public interest argument was conveniently applied to exempt the latest batch of lobbyists. "

    ReplyDelete
  151. The most ethical administration in history!!!!!! (with waivers)

    ReplyDelete
  152. KENNETH! Darls! *hug*

It's like old home week and I'm liking it a lot.

Before I log-off for the night as I'm just good and sleepy *yawwwwwwwwn* after a real nice baked lasagne dinner with salad and a very garlicky toasted baguette, I'll leave you with this. Contrary to what the *spit* MSM *spit* would have you *snark* racists *snark* to be believe, there IS hope - and lots of it. :D

    Tomorrow my friends. *mwah* :D

    Enjoy!

  155. I am so in trouble. I just broke the coffee mug my youngest made for her Nana. It was her birthday today and #2 made this mug and "gave" it to Nana this morning over Skype.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Wow, Sasquatch. I haven't been keeping up with this like I should. From you rlink:

"Further ridiculing his laughable ethics rules, Barack Obama has issued 10 additional waivers to hire lobbyists in violation of an executive order he proudly signed upon taking office.

The president’s latest ethics waivers give his administration a total of 16 prominent industry lobbyists who either work as White House officials or in high-ranking positions at federal agencies despite his stern campaign promise that lobbyists “won’t find a job in my White House” and highly touted order order banning them from his administration."

    ReplyDelete
  157. Z,

I know. You can't make this crap up.
    What a joke.
I'd laugh if he wasn't so damn predictable.

  158. I am so in trouble. I just broke the coffee mug my youngest made for her Nana. It was her birthday today and #2 made this mug and "gave" it to Nana this morning over Skype.

Hide the pieces. Tell the kid that the mug "went over the air in millions of pieces..." all the way to Nana's...

Get Nana to play along, should work out ok ;)

    ReplyDelete
  159. SoS .... I am gonna laugh my ass off until he gets his ass back to Chicago ... he did absolutely NOTHING for his district there ...

    ReplyDelete
  160. 'Nite Miss Trixie, take care.

  161. ETR = I am so in trouble.
